It doesn't say that the shutdown hasn't had an impact, just that the impact over such a short time is within the natural variation.

latest statistics state co2 is rising at the same rate , even through the world shut down, is the co2 coming from natural sources? just a thought. "The world shut down" is a great exaggeration. CO2 emissions are only 6.6%lower this year compared to last year ( iea.org). Very unlikely to make any difference to the global levels, given that once added to the atmosphere CO2 hangs around for between 300 to 1,000 years ( climate.nasa.gov). Reminder of the overall trend:

I had thought we might have gone beyond the whole "is it happening?" stuff and moved on to the more interesting "what the F are we going to do about it?"
Fantastic to see more and more people beginning to consider living their life using less stuff and generating less CO2. The last year has seen a "C change" across the world which will be helped when the orange monkey leaves the Whitehouse.
have a look at ITM share price today went through £4 for the first time as the need for large electrolyser installations have become more mainstream. Solar production is going crazy even in Saudi. No new petrol cars after 2030 in the UK and that may reduce yet again.
The future is going to be wind, solar, tidal, battery and hydrogen, move on or move out of the way! Invest with, or lose money!

Yes of course, its all good and we all understand it, my point is...... Is all this ecomaniacal investment going to stop climate change, which you are so convinced has been caused by human activity, personally i have serious doubts, the paris climate accord will offer and result in the same benefits as the kyoto agreement ... roughly none.

Really great questions. Best dealt with in 3 parts
Part 1; Science
Do I think Kyoto or Paris has set tough enough targets? No.
Do I think we have to have all the countries taking part? Yes.
Do I think the issue is caused by Humans? I see it as a bit more complicated than that. What I see is that Carbon has been sequestrated in the earth over millions of year as plants helped convert the CO2 heavy atmosphere to CO2 light. What humans decided to do, in our ignorance, was to intiate the industrial revolution and release millions of years of CO2 back into the atmosphere and water. The benefits of this release of energy was to give us enough time to learn enough about the planet to realise that we had chosen the wrong route. We now know a better route, in the future there may be an even better one.
Will it be enough? I don't know, but, I do know that doing nothing is stupid, that doing something is what humans do.
Part 2; Other people
I also look at it from another direction. The western world needs employment. We don't really need a lot more motorways (horror NIMBI etc) we don't really need more trains (oh no HS2) and I don't need another Turkish made toaster until this one breaks down. But building powerstations to make the planet better for children, what is not to like?
Part 3; Me
So, I've disinvested my rather large holdings from fossil fuels and made an even larger amount of money. The sheep are running this way so join in.
Appendix "roughly none".... 7 billion people need to change their practices, that takes time. Talk about a large oiler taking a lot of time to turn around. Just getting Climate Change into the schools has taken years. Humans don't like to stop doing what they like to do.
Just have a look at this history of the slave trade, it shows humans are just slow.

I had thought we might have gone beyond the whole "is it happening?" stuff and moved on to the more interesting "what the F are we going to do about it?" When even the Trump family is bragging about the bigliest CO2 reductions... What's that? Only 9.2%...? In the year when the global average fell 8.8% CO2 and 40% NOx? Next think they'll be claiming that the DJ hitting a record high on the date that Trump agreed to play nicely in handing over is a plus point for them. Oh, wait.

Interesting article on Countryfile last night 10% of UK CO2 emissions come from peat breaking down.
Why is it breaking down, because the surface is being damaged by 4x4 and off road motorbikes.
Was talking to a friend yesterday she's had 2 things done this winter a large radiator in Garage to keep car warm and also a plug in heater for the car that's not in the garage so it's not frosted over in a morning. This from someone who lectures me on driving a diesel at an overage of 60 MPG, yet drives a 4X4 at a little under 20MPG ( cos they need a big car to tow the caravan ).

My next door field contains 87 bullocks. No shortage of emissions around here. (£ 970 for an 18 month old@last weeks stock prices.).The surface is trashed and is liquid manure. Runs straight down into the River Clun. Great stuff.

I'd suggest there's a VERY tiny amount of peat being lost to surface damage from legal greenlaning on the tiny handful of vehicular rights of way... Meanwhile, try buying a bag of compost at the garden centre that isn't damn near 100% peat.

legal use of greenlanes I have no issue with, I have an issue with the area near Newport ( Wales ) where Off roaders are testing the ability of their vehicles on neolithic Barrows etc.
funnily enough here in wales I can never find the stuff with peat in.

I'll head to the garden centre that direction next time we need some, then. The one we normally go to, 3.5 miles from the border, had nothing but the last time I was sent to buy some.[/quote]
