Cop26 shows tiny steps and blah blah blah, very frustrating
Peat zero compost. Our local garden centre sells the zero stuff by the small builders bag with a depost and reuse system. Incredibly easy to do and they also offer a club memebership. Who knew it would be so easy. Just ask your local garden centre to pull their finger out.
As long as people sit on the side lines and do nothing but mown nothing will happen. Spend time complaining to these organisations. For instance the UK supermarkets have agreed to halve their emmissions by 2030. Ask them why 50%, why not 95%? I do it and it irritates them.

back in my day... t the youngsters.... i say this. there were no plastic bottles, only glass bottles, reused and taken back to the shop. there were no plastic bags, all food .. including fish and chips were served in paper, or paper bags. if you bought a bottle of pop, you returned the bottle for a 2p reduction on your next bottle of pop. all sweets were bought from a sweet shop... in a paper bag. mums bought shopping and carried it home in a shopping trolley... not a carrier bag. when i had to get to school, i had to walk... there were no 4x4's to ferry me their. there were no McDonald plastic toys, and no burger king plastics either. no polystyrene food boxes to litter the streets. milk was delivered in re-usable glass bottles by a man on an electric vehicle. holidays were taken in a caravan in the UK, not on an aeroplane to spain. These youngsters need to take a look in the recycling mirror and consider which generation are actually wasteful.

Hypocrite eco-warrior kiddies and their lunatic Extinction Rebellion supporting parents would rather die than walk to school. The children have to be driven to and from school in mummy or daddy's SUV. In my day almost all children walked miles to and from school every day.

You forgot that fresh Orange juice was a rare treat and came in pint bottles delivered by the milkman Most Parents walked to the local market for fruit and veg potatoes came from the sack and were dropped into a wicker basket. Most bedrooms were unheated,I can remember seeing fern Patterns on the inside of mine in the winter. No one had a tumble dryer washing was dried outside or on a clothes horse round the fire, I can remember sheets coming into the house stiff with frost

You forgot that fresh Orange juice was a rare treat and came in pint bottles delivered by the milkman I remember it coming in tins that had to be diluted... That's how we still buy our fruit and veg - off the greengrocer's stall on the market... Just opposite the fresh fish stall, along from the cheese and general grocery stall. If we wanted a whole sack, we'd go down to the potato farm on the corner. Yup, the past was a bit rubbish, really, when you get into it... Most of this rose-tinted nostalgia comes down to "I was young, I liked being young. I'm now old, I don't like being old."

Bearing in mind I'm only 62, I have a distinct memory of visiting my paternal Grandmothers house ( in Town ) aged about 7 and needing the toilet and finding she has a 2 holer at the bottom of the garden.
Still not as much of a shock as a few years later being taken to visit an "Aunt" and helping dad and 2 uncles move her outside toilet to a new location.

When we moved at age 10, I went from relative modern comforts to the toilet being a bucket in an outhouse half way up the garden. That lasted for about 18 months. So "2 holer" ?: luxury. It sounds like at least you didn't have the regular job of emptying the bucket in the list of jobs (pun not intended) With a family of 5, it was a pretty frequent requirement.

Our's did flush, but also froze up in the winter! And I remember going out to the toilet on a dark night being scary.
