That's the BBC's opening headline. I'm not sure which part you're having difficulty with? You'll know from the news this month that large swathes of Europe and the US are being blighted by intense heatwaves.
Bearing in mind the function and constraints of a headline, you wouldn't expect the BBC to catalogue... at the very top of the article... the entire detailed list of individual countries/counties/localities affected. Most people understand that a headline isn't the full story, it's a summary and it has to be succinct. Like all headlines since the dawn of the age of printing, you'll need to read the main article if you want the detail.
In any case, what should concern us far more than the precise geography is the conclusion of the study: "The study concluded that El NiƱo probably played a small part but that increased temperatures from burning fossil fuels was the main driver in the more intense heatwaves".
Yet another study confirming what most climate scientists have been telling us for decades now.

40C is not enough to cause houses to catch fire ! otherwise it would be a regular occurrence in Southern Europe, Australia, Africa, Texas etc etc even places like Siberia I would suggest it is more likely that something in the house concentrated light and that caused a hot spot, much as a magnifying glass would. This then ignited. Mythbusters did an experiment with mirrors etc and even reflecting the sun using in excess of 50 mirrors they got the surface temperature to over 150 degrees but no fire.

I remember in the 60s, my Mother's table got a burn mark from the sun being focussed coming through an imperfect pane of glass forming a lens, she was furious.

The old Bulls eye glass had a tendency to act as a lens, Glass vases could have a similar effect

Or forests for that matter... greek media having a good old laugh at the BBC reporting on the fires in greece... meanwhile.. the greek authorities are looking for the arsonist's.
