Just discovered coronavirus is an anagram of carnivorous. I hope that's just a coincidence.

Hmm .. received a text message from local health centre yesterday evening, essentially all GP appointments are now telephone consultations at home for the forseeable future, but booked appointments with the nurse continue as normal (for now) Three days ago the tally for Southwark was 1 yesterday 5 , today 8.
Seems to imply the virus is in circulation in my immediate area. Not good, though inevitable I guess.

but more than 24hrs out of date Now shows data as at 9am on 9 Mar, guess it runs with a 24-hour delay.
BBC reports 373 cases (all time) in the UK, with 6 deaths as at 9am 10 Mar Prof Whitty confirmed the intentional 24hr delay during this (lengthy) clip posted by registerme. At minute 13:50. The 24hr buffer is to (a) cope with the increasing numbers, and (b) ensure data validity.

Why did Trump have to say a few weeks ago that the spread covid-19 could be halted in the warmer weather. Now of course almost every article on the subject even from more serious sources like this one below starts with "Trump said XYZ... Is he right?" . I suspect most of the medical scientists don't like Trump and it must be hard for them to resist stating he's wrong. He probably is wrong but I do wonder if what he said has skewed the responses. Its very annoying and makes it much harder to get to the truth. www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-could-warming-mean-for-pathogens-like-coronavirus/

- Norwegian cancel 3000 flights and axe staff.
- Virgin admit to flying planes that are nearly empty
- UK carriers stop flying to Italy
agent69 , you missed (at least) one. Qantas. Pulling out A380s, predominantly on Asian routes. Of course being a large incumbent Qantas will likely ride it through relatively unscathed. Frankly all this airline reduction shouldn't really surprise anyone though. And a period of reduced international traffic might can only really be a good thing as far as COVID-19 goes. Also very good for the environment.
One of the web sites had a polution map for China showing the redution in air polution caused by everyone staying at home. Every cloud as they say

Is it possible that many have already had the milder symptom version already. I for one remember having unusual cold symtoms and speaking to others who had similar, which would go and return for quite a few weeks - the later part of 2019! I remember not having the energy to go jogging for at at least a couple of months. Edit Then again perhaps not looking at the Italian stats!

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see bailouts in the airline industry (And others?), with possible squabbles about state aid for pudding.

I can't get this deeply irresponsible advert out of my head: Quite incredible. I don't watch much TV and never see ads so I don't know if this is current - is it ? A few months/year(s) old I think and I've not seen it during the recent crisis. The fact they haven't taken it down from YT is a little surprising although I guess there are/would be repeats from non-GSK users.

I must have had it worse than you as I haven't had the energy to go jogging since I was in my mid-teens

That's useful to know as I've been sick with something since Xmas. Slightly runny nose, sinus pain and swollen glands are the main symptoms. That (and the continual rain) have put me off jogging too.

...and herein lies the problem, at what stage does someone with a sore throat or other "mild" respiratory symptoms phone 111 for advice? I dread to think what proportion of the population have such symptoms at any one time during the winter months.

If you don't have a high temperature and a cough it's not covid! I wondered about that but a high temperature is not consistent with mild or very mild symptoms which is what most people are supposed to expect. Like others above, I've had slightly unusual symptoms (for me at least). A stubborn very mild fever of 37.1 and corresponding low level permanent headache being the main symptoms but fatigue being another. What makes me think it unlikely that we have or have had C19 is that the UK has tested a fairly large sample and the vast majority come back negative so why should I be any different?

Church attendance high, holy communion probably a factor? I understand (not a goer myself) Catholic church in UK has already announced no holy water, shared chalices, hand shaking etc. because of corona. Unlikely. The epicentre is in the less religious North of the country. In the winter more popular than the South with Chinese tourists. From BBC news on Italys fatalities: "The health ministry says the average age of deaths from the coronavirus is 81.4 years." "Italy has one of the world's oldest populations. The virus is particularly dangerous for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions." Also, exceptionally family orientated, typically Grandparents living in same family house or annex.
