So not sure if this has been discussed recently but Halifax has recently opened a new deal where one can get £100 for a few hoops to jump through but in essence for anyone who has another current account not working for them and is prepared to set up a hfx reward account then it is possible to get better than 2.5% for very little work. Have a look at the link there is a long forum on MSE too - I've started things rolling for Mrs Aju and myself this morning opening up accounts and switching a couple of spare accounts. I'm preparing to use £1500 to push back and forth with each of our accounts so we don't pay the £3 monthly fee that's the way to get the £100. I could just bow out what seems fairly quickly and take the £100. That would effectively get 6.6% (if I left it there for a year rotating but way better as some people are saying the reward comes fairly quickly) There are rewards where If I put £5000 into the account and keep at lest 5000 for every day for a year then I will get £5 (£6.25 for non tax payers like Mrs Aju) even mine has reduced quite a bit now that I've put a lot of reinvest into Mrs Aju's account and the rates have plummeted. So the £5000 with £5(6.25) reward can get (1.2%) or 1.5% to mitigate the fee I need to have 6500 so I don't touch the 5000 as going under will make the £5 void for any month when that happens. So assuming I get £6.25+£5 month and have 6500 in the account then that's 2.07%. I think I got that right. Sadly its not compounding but I could mover the monthlies back to my next best invest-able simple account which by then will be Marcus @ at a paltry 1.05% after the end of August. One thing to watch out for if you are interested is don;t set up the £5/£6.25 for £5000 until you are cleared and have put £5000 into the account as it seems if you miss even one day of having 5000 in the account then it will lose the £5 for that month. Sorry if that's not quite extensive as I say there are a lot of references to it elsewhere and there are you have until 14 Sep to have completed the new account and started the transfer. The rewards request can be done anytime. Anyway hope that helps anyone wishing to get free money without too many onerous hurdles, not sure how long it might last as it seems to be gaining a lot of web traffic on MSE anyway. Edit: Added a link to MSE as well in text (I wish I could type too! Edit2: There are other ways to get the £5 than the £5000 but there are no ways round the 1500 £3 fee as far as O can tell.

Thank you for posting this info. I didn't expect any good offers from banks at this time. I have a dormant RBS ready for switching (earned me £150 for switching and has no purpose anymore), it's always good to keep dormant bank accounts opened if they don't require any fees. In my calculation Halifax is a 3.2% offer, which is the best offer on the market today. I'll get it done tomorrow - have to grab good offers quickly before they disappear

Thanks for the heads-up aju! I've just upgraded my current account to a 'reward' account, which apparently qualifies, although the £100 reward hasn't spontaneously materialized yet as promised...but I'm optimistic!

Oops, Did you read the rules in their site it always pays to read the full quid before making any assumptions, I thought it had to be a new Reward account and it had to be a switch in not what you seem to suggest you have done. I too had a current account, I still have, but I took no chances with both of our switches and as I wanted to close some other accounts did it by switch into a new reward account. I opened the reward account as part of the process. Sorry if I confused things, again if I were you i'd double check this. Good luck. PS. I always find it pays to read these terms on these things, it took me a few days to decide how to set it all up. I read the whole of the MSE link all 28 pages to gain useful insight into the ideosyncrosies of these things. One other thing is how flakey their website process are in places. Don't link to anything other than using a new page link too. some important links along the way in my view should not fail but to important docs but they did when I did it. I copied everything just in case. (We have received our texts to say the switch is in progress and will complete for us on the 20th) They do have quite a good 7 days precis of what happens.

Isn't that not allowed as per the T's and C's? "You are not eligible for the offer if: You open and switch to any account other than a new Reward Current Account or new Ultimate Reward Current Account. You change your existing current account to a Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account and switch to that account. Since April 2018 you received a switching offer for switching to a Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account. The bank you are switching from does not participate in the Current Account Switch Service. To find out more visit www.currentaccountswitch.co.uk"The wording does seem a little ambiguous though. edit: X-d with Aju. edit2: What I'm trying to confirm is whether I can open a fresh new Reward account to complement my existing Halifax "standard" account and be eligible - ? edit3: I think you can, providing you switch from a non-Lloyds banking group account.

Glad you read the terms they are quite a muddle I know but I assumed everyone reads these things and it appears they don;t. I guess I'm just thorough. Even the main MES site gets it wrong according to the MSE threaders.

It looks like you are all correct, and I messed this up!
For anyone interested in the tedious details, to avoid making the same mistake: I clicked on the icon titled 'I already have a bank account with Halifax', which led to the news that 'If you already have a current account with Halifax, there are several options to choose from'. Option 2 was 'Change your existing account – you can upgrade or downgrade from another Halifax current account through Online Banking', so I chose that and completed the process. However the system did not let me know that this route would not result in "£100 for almost nothing". Not quite sure how I got funneled in that direction, but yes, it does indeed say elsewhere in the Ts and Cs that this is not one of the options for scooping the reward.

So what I would try if you haven't already is to downgrade it back to a current account, might work the system is probably not defended against it. Worth a try if it works you can start again. I must admit I took almost 2 days to read and digest everything but assume that's just me. good luck!.

Ahh free money! I got this bonus a year ago. Doubt I could get it again. Nope not with Hfx anyway ... its in the terms - since sometime in 2018 I believe. Didn't affect me so didn't atually record it better than that.

Kudos to aju for picking up on this. I tend to ignore switching offer these days as usually requiring direct debits or not being an existing account holder so Id ignored this. Account opened and switch initiated.

Account opened and switch initiated. Cheers for the kudos, to be honest I was surprised I was first to the trough as the MSE site seemed to go wild a week or so ago. I'm like having come up through the multiple accounts worth small fortunes to some - halifax was a real money earner for us over a number of years in the past. They seem to have refined themselves now though - learnt from their mistakes I'd say and are limiting things a lot more now but it is essentially the same thing. We have not put anything in as yet as still waiting for switches to complete. I have already prepared out accounts for £1500 run around, at least we don;t need DD's this time (Tesco pretty much stopped that game when they removed their DD's capability from saving accounts!. Any way good luck have fun with the funds, although to be fair Mrs aju has already spent it in her mind, I must stop telling her how this stuff works.

Ek! The validation on the Halifax switch form refuses to accept my last name (which has a pesky hyphen in it). Processed the switch over the phone instead.
