When I used to work for a living I managed trades around the world, obviously doing business with the West was easier than anywhere else, but the two western countries we hated using were Portugal and the US as the banking models (at retail level) were so antiquated.

Seen adverts recently for CHASE bank, the selling point seems to be the numbers not on the card it's all in the app Durr great until you want to buy online and it asks for the card number or the APP goes down as adrianc will confirm not everywhere has great mobile signal yet this whole thing is built around it. But at least we are not the powerhouse that is the US of A some people are still paid by cheque and take it to the bank to cash it. 40 odd years ago when I started my first job they wanted bank details so I could be paid directly to the bank. In my recent experience in the US, tradesmen and the like only wanted payment by cheque (check). My suggesting online payment was a complete curveball to them. I even dealt with a car dealer who wanted my personal cheque in preference to online payment... I'm happy to be corrected, but could this be because I believe that in the US they take a bounced cheque/check VERY seriously. No getting away with it like you do here, instant jail in the US. IF this is so, seems a good idea to me.......

It’s questionable that the UK banks may have abolished cheque payment.
My experience with big personal cheques not honoured by issuing banks has not been great lately, rejected 100%. Bank refuses to pay cheques, CHAPs on the other hand are fine.
What’s the point to deposit a cheque via the app when the limit is under £500.

It’s true using Revolut in Portugal is not as fun in other countries. Without a Multibanco card nor Portuguese bank account, cash becomes a necessity when spending in certain shops in Portugal

I thought the idea of having Apple Pay / Google Pay / Paypal means you don’t have to remember the numbers for regular purchase.

I quickly realised this was really not going to help much so have never used it.

Next big step for me would be loading all my cards onto my phone as that would mean I finally don't need to remember to take my wallet everywhere.
Haven't really looked into it though yet. Does Google/Apple pay allow you to do that?

Does Google/Apple pay allow you to do that? I'm going to say ... 'maybe' :-) I no longer take a (physical) wallet out with me, only my mobile. I do however have a v. small number of cards kept physically in my mobile case. 90% of my transactions are done using touch pay through the phone. That has both of my bank cards (joint and solo) loaded up in Samsung pay. It also has my loyalty cards loaded up either in Samsung pay or in in the retailer's app. I don't like the latter because it always seems to require a data connection whereas the former doesn't. My problem though is my credit card - Barclaycard. Which is not supported by Samsung pay, 'cos Barclays want you to make the Barclaycard app your default payment app. I cannot find a way of having Samsung Pay and Barclaycard app both able to be active on the phone. So barclaycard loses out, and I carry the flaming bit of plastic with me in the phone case. My decision to try Curve inside Samsung Pay was a (failed) attempt to get round that. I've looked at others, and particularly whether GooglePay (I'm on Android) will do the job. But I recall there were some problems with that, possibly again related to Barclaycard. Or maybe because it wasn't so easy to load up loyalty cards. I actually use the loyalty card element to hold 'Gift Cards' as well (i.e. preloaded cards which I get discounts on when loading up with ££). Its tempting to switch Credit Cards......

Samsung Pay+ is just another Curve. www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/samsung-pay-plus-faqs/It’s impossible to add a curve card inside a curve wallet. However, you can have multiple curve in different names. 😉 Curve made it possible for debit card transactions in the old days.

Does Google/Apple pay allow you to do that? Regarding Apple Pay and Garmin Pay, adding curve is already enough, you may want to add Chase and Amex for extra benefits. EDIT: Unless you are big spender and you use up curve annual limit too quickly, then you may have to add your main debit / credit card as a back up or request higher curve spending limit 😅

I believe that one issue with Curve is that if you purchase on Curve and get a refund, it will not be credited back to the CC that you routed the original transaction to. It will go into your curve cash account. Personally I really did not like this feature.

Well, don’t forget Curve can travel time, I haven’t had any issues regarding credit card refund on curve or going back in time.

I do tend to carry cards, primarily due to concerns about having NFC on permanently and the effort of turning it on & off. That said I my primary card is a Barclaycard via Curve via GooglePay (when I can be arsed). However, the recent changes to Curve limiting the number of cards on the free version and its as stated annoying uselessness for online use mean I will be likely be not using it going forward. Agree with the points regarding refunds going onto Curve rather than underlying card, though I just go back in time to clear the credit balance on Curve. One useful thing is its a debit card so can be used to make payments via the linked credit card where credit cards arent normally accepted (Cashback on deposits on P2P platforms - providing Curve hasnt blocked them)
