Good news for Scottish flag pole makers, as all Scottish govt buildings will need two flagpole.
One to comply with her edict on flying the EU flag everyday and one for the Scottish/Union flag.
Alternatively, she is presumably having EU flags inserted where the sun don't shine for coming up with this stupid concept of requiring a flag to be flown daily.

Somebody once came up with a pithy phrase about things like this. Who was it now? Ahh yes, Samuel Johnson. Nearly two hundred and fifty years ago!
I assume no relation.

Obviously you mean this one: "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford" As this one would obviously not apply here in any way whatsoever: "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel"

O and to pay the planning office staff. I doubt this will add much to the planning tasks. I imagine when any one asks about flying an EU flag this will be the response: Now where do I send the £30bn bill for providing them with a solution?

I think the flag should be shoved up the backside of all ministers who support this stupid concept.
Seriously. There are so many problems in the UK at the moment and ministers getting obsessed over flag wanking.
They are supposed to represent those who elected them. No doubt the majority that did would rather they got their priorities right.
I think those who elected them will be happy to see the British flag flying, unlike the constantly moaning lefties who are ashamed to be British and think they are ever so superior.

Aah... let's play a game of spot the Brexiteer.
Ever unwilling to admit the utter failure and waste of time and money otherwise known as Brexit, the government are busy playing distraction tactics with flag waving wankery.
The only thing transparent about the present government is how easy it is to see through their lies and distraction tactics. As I was resident in France at the time of the referendum brexit was not ideal for me and I did not vote for it. However I detest sneering left wing types who seem to think they are better than everyone else and are for ever making offensive remarks.

JamesFrance I have no problem with the flying of the Union Jack. I do have a problem when the flying of it is mandated, and is suddenly trotted out in the face of a splintering Union. It's nothing but a naked political / populist move. Colour me cynical.

Part of the problem is that for most of my life the flag has been associated with extreme right wing groups like nf, the bnp and so on. That is very wrong and unfortunate. Seeing it flying everywhere will perhaps restore the right way to think about it. Being part of a team, a street, a town and indeed a nation are part of what brings us together and is in my view a good thing. Flags etc help to symbolise that sense of belonging. You London types who don't know your next door neighbour you've lived next to for 10 years wouldn't understand of course....

The whole problem is that being "brought together" around a flag is an inherently exclusive "them and us" thing. WE are better than YOU. Look, here's our flag to prove it!

I mean, what next, will all staff in government buildings be forced to gather round at 8am every day and sing the national anthem ?
Oh, gawd, I can just picture it. A bunch of bored people, staring at their shoes as they mumble a dirge whose words they don't know. MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP!
