UK prison population stats... data.justice.gov.uk/prisonsTotal prisoners - 81,806 Life sentences - 7,084 = 8.7% Indefinite for Public Protection - 1,492 = 1.8% Remand - 13,409 = 16.4% Female - 3,107 = 3.8% By Crime Violence against person - 20,590 = 25.1% Sexual - 12,745 = 15.6% Robbery - 5,806 = 7.0% Theft - 6,218 = 7.6% Drugs - 10,855 = 13.3% Possession of Weapons - 2,369 = 2.9% www.gov.uk/government/statistics/women-and-the-criminal-justice-system-2021/women-and-the-criminal-justice-system-2021Proportion of all arrests - 15% Proportion of all prosecutions - 21% Proportion of all convictions - 21% Proportion remanded to Crown Court - 10% Proportion of immediate custodial sentences - 7%, average 14.5 months vs 22.7 months male 17% <12mo sentences vs 7% for male. Theft from shops - 21% of female prosecutions, 8% male. TV licence prosecutions - 75% female, 18% of female prosecutions. so approximately 1 in 6 arrests, but 1 in 5 prosecutions and convictions. I do wonder if the TV licence were abolished what impact it would have maybe free up a lot of court time. the only figures I can find " almost 200,000 people were prosecuted in 2012-13 for failing to buy a TV licence. “More than 50 were sent to prison. over 10% of magistrates court cases concern this one offence"200,000 prosecutions, 29 Million households. £160 per licence £4,640,000,000 total BBC income from licence let's say an average solicitor costs £200 per hour. assume each case has 2 solicitors ( defence and prosecution ), plus the defendant and the TV licensing witness. from what I hear on average 50% of cases are postponed at the last minute as one side or the other is not ready to start or a witness isn't present Assume each defendant spends and hour with a solicitor in advance, then 2 hours on court day, So 4 hours allowing for delayed cases, prosecuting solicitor ditto. so 8 hours per case £1,600 per case plus loss of a days work for a percentage of defendants, the witness and court costs etc. let's round this to £2,000 a case. £2000 X 200000 £400,000,000 or 12% of the TV licence take. As a fair minded person, i believe fining people hundreds of pounds for not being able to afford a TV licence merely makes the situation worse for that person if however you added a small fraction of a penny to income tax you could save this cost, I would add that personally I think the BBC should move to a subscription model.

I think we will rue the day we have to use Fox or Sky to tell us what is happening in the world

There's 120 asylum seekers being housed in Hereford soon - the first, and a small fraction of a "fair" proportion of the backlog to the population, at a mediocre hotel that's due to be redeveloped in the near future anyway. The language being widely and openly used on local social media is truly inflammatory. Strangely enough, Sir Wungalow William* Wiggin has just popped up on the subject. www.herefordtimes.com/news/23371414.herefordshire-cant-cope-new-migrants-hotel---mp/There's reference in there to the immigration minister, Robert Jenrick, and his "large house in Herefordshire". Yes, the Grade I listed 17th century manor (in the grounds of NT Berrington Hall) which he broke lockdown rules to come and visit in the very early days of the pandemic. * - just plain Bungalow Bill (not much up top) until he was knighted by Boris at the end of 2021 for faithfully and consistently going through the right lobby door without asking awkward questions. www.herefordtimes.com/news/17968755.mp-bill-wiggin-thinner-buses-vegetarian-nonsense/

At the risk of bringing wrath and scorn upon my head :
Considering the desperate state of the civilian population of Germany after 1918 ,you could have some sympathy for their approval of totalitarian leadership and policies .Ditto most other eastern european states including the USSR . There is an account by Bernard Newman, a Brit spy, who spent his 'holidays ' cycling around Eastern Europe . He wrote a charming little book ,in which he comments how 'he see's that something is going to have to be done with the jewish population because of their isolation in shtetls and failure to assimilate ' . And so it was and so they did.
Its not comparable to a lot of present day boat people who want to assimilate , but won't because now they are too many and too different.
Usual naive twaddle from llightly educated footballer.

Thank God it was empty. Even the police said it was due to "Safeguarding" concerns. i.e. To protect children from harm or abuse. Look at the pics on their website. Wrong in every way. www.dragqueenstoryhour.co.uk/

Wrong in every way. www.dragqueenstoryhour.co.uk/My reading of the article was that the organisers had cancelled events due to safeguarding concerns. Presumably the risk to performers and attendees created by some of the protesters. I had a quick look at the website pictures (I confess I did not check every page) but did not see anything much different to what can be seen at any Christmas pantomime.
