Breaking news from the BBC app... Djokovic is being deported tomorrow... ...What I don't understand is why the airline or charter flying him believed he would be admitted entry.... Well of course it was a requirement of the tournament (and state of Victoria and of Australian immigration) that you demonstrated proof of vaccination or were valid for exemption from vaccination on medical grounds. He was granted medical exemption by independent panel, but it seems still contingent on him showing evidence of the grounds on which he claimed it. In addition, it appears that the visa that he had got to get access to the country wasnt' of a type that allowed entry under medical exemption from vaccination. Mr Djokovic is the No.1 male tennis player in the world; multiple winner of the Aus Open; is renowned for refusing to put on record his vaccine status (and for his prior anti vax comments etc etc); that vaccination or expemption has been a known requirement for the Aus open for months; he will have a significant size team around him, and entry to the country given the above will have been a matter of some considerable negotiation between himself, his team, the tournament organisers, the state of Victoria and the Aus federal govt for some considerable time (and why speculation has been all over the press for weeks). Under the circumstances, I'd say that things would be rather out of the hands or indeed knowledge of the airline/charter (and for all we know it might have been a private flight ). He isn't some bog standard Croation Serbian that rocks up at an airport, shows his papers, and hops on a plane to Aus assuming that Qantas can figure it out for him and not let him board if he doesn't have the right paperwork. I think we can assume that it was meant to be sorted between 'his team' and 'the Aus team', but it's gone pear shaped.

Not in the news, but on TV tonight.
I was watching a programme about Allen Stanford, the jailed Texan billionaire who offered $20m in a winner takes all cricket match between England and the Windies. One of the american legal team that prosecuted him came out with a saying that may well apply to P2P;
- if you want to steal a thousand dollars you need a gun
- if you want to steal a million dollars you need a pen
- if you want to steal Many Millions of dollars you need an internet connection.

I really don't think he would have got on that plane unless someone in Australia said it "would be fine". While I am personally comfortable about Novak being put in his place, after the French submarine saga, it does also paint a picture of Australian deal brokering style which is perhaps not helpful for them in the longer term.

Get whichever permissions they can (Tournament and/or State), get him in the country and then use the publicity and the fact he's already on the ground there to try and get a visa sorted to actually enter the country.

I'm not a deeply religious person (church visits restricted to births, marriages and deaths), but I do have a bit of a problem with the catholic church:
- they believe in miracles
- they presided over, and covered up, widespread abuse of young children
- they discouraged people in sub-saharan Africa from practicising safe sex, resulting in millions contracting HIV

Maybe he's just so arrogant he thought that once I get there I'm such a famous person they will have to let me in?
Let's not forget that if you travel to a foreign country there's only one person responsible for ensuring you have the correct documentation to enter that country. You!

It runs very counter to the "fair does" culture of Oz. So if he gets in he is going to have a host of problems on the court. (tennis)

...and that's just the start of a VERY long list. For me, it's very simple... If the god of the Abrahamic timeline really does exist, why can't he get his bloody salesmen agreeing with each other?

It’s a “professional” thing to drop xxx in someone else voicemail as part of found and matched program, probably a routine in Basildon.

A bit more info appearing today.
The Aussie government issued an exemption on the basis of medical information provided by Djokovic. When he arrived in Melbourne the imigration officials wanted to check his visa, but are unable to do so because they don't know what the medical condition was that prompted the exemption. The people who issued the visa are unable to pass this information to imigration as it would be a breach of data protection laws. As a consequence immigration wont let him in as they don't know whether his visa is valid or not.
So the easiest way to resolve the situation is for Djokovic to tell imigration why he qualifies for a medical exemption, but he appears unwilling to do this (I wonder why). So he's in a quarantine hotel until Monday, when his case will be decided.
