I've heard the sea, and places like East Anglia, described as 'flat as a witch's tit'. Never heard the 'colder' alternative, but will do my bit to keep it alive now. I have always been a witch's tit user, at least since school. In fact I use at least 80% of the article's list on a fairly regular basis!

BBC reporting that the Met police are going to investifgate No 10 partygate affair.
This means that Sue Gray will not publish her report until the police investigation is over, and nobody knows how long that will take.
"Commissioner Cressida Dick said ... the investigation was launched as a "result of the information provided by the Cabinet Office inquiry team", led by civil servant Sue Gray."Suddenly, the publication of the report doesn't look quite so important. The broad direction of the content has been tacitly confirmed... I wonder what the cost of the investigation will be and how that will compare with the fines imposed on anyone found to have broken the rules (is it £100 for first time offenders)

If the people making these draconian laws didnt like them, they should not have passed the damned laws in the first place. Instead of what they actually did, which was pass the laws to be applied to all us mere peasants, then decide the laws didnt apply to themselves.

Newsnight last night had an old Conservative buffer trying to say that a meeting of people for 10 minutes does not a party make. It isn't the party element that pisses me off,it is the non-work meeting taking place.
Over the years I've had people tell me that bankers and politicians work hard so they deserve their rest and relaxation. When I ask how many hours it is never more than a fair number of do normally. Little worlds.

Thing is,that in the big scheme of things,I couldn't give a tinker's cuss whether they had a garden party, any more than Dom taking off to the Barnard Castle with his family. What I do care about is the media morons tediously blagging and not serving up any other news/views/information about life, the universe and all that. I'm reduced to reading books for entertainment.

Normally I would agree with you but what I resent is the "do as I say not as I do" aspect. These are the fkers that imposed house arrest on the country. IF its that serious, surely they can manage to follow the rules themselves?

What would the cost/benefit balance be? Anybody with the first clue about British politics knows that lying at the Dispatch Box is a thick red line. How do you think Johnson's behaviour has stood up to the Nolan Principles, and to the Ministerial Code? Do you think a single word from his mouth can be trusted? Do you think his primary concern is the best interests of the country?

Twenty years later, it's the only thing that people ever mention about Blair's premiership... It made zero practical global difference, of course, since the US would have invaded Iraq with or without the UK. Do you think history will perceive a similar balance of lasting positives to negatives with Johnson's tenure?

Probably depends on your perspective whether you consider any lasting positives from the Blair tenure or any other PM tenure but then as the current context is lying to Parliament not exactly relevant. Whether Boris lied to Parliament about parties also probably makes zero global difference.

To be honest, no. Too many querelous complaints are obscuring the reality that we need to get on with stuff , now. I'm mildly sympathetic that Granny died in a carehome but that is history , as was lockdown abuses. Time for forward progress rather than pathetic maundering to try and bring down the present PM under the excuse of being offended. All of us lie, have lied, will lie. I forgive you. I am not shocked,no.

I also don't care about the parties and I don't care about the faux-dangerous eye test drives up north either. I do care that the entire country (including the most dyed-in the-wool true blues on this forum) knows our leading politicians lack integrity and consider themselves above the laws of the land. Not just party-gate, not just eye-test-gate, not just wallpaper-gate, not just Own-Paterson-gate, not just Cock-gate but a consistent lack of basic integrity that's bled through to billions of taxpayer funds being diverted to friends and families via opaque, inadequate and non-compliant tender processes; funds which should have been spent on genuine public services or not at all. If they don't clean up their act and install a new figurehead then we will end up with a Labour government, not because people actually want a Labour government (possibly biased on this as I've never voted Labour) but because the nation can no longer bear the sight of a bunch of epic pi$$ takers robbing them blind whilst laughing in their faces about it.

The UK is actually doing the right things, and BJ is actually saying the right things. And in the latter respect, he is arguably performing rather better than Biden. At least for now.
