Not exactly in the news, but from Tesco: 'The war in Ukraine has affected supplies of sunflower oil. To allow food products made with sunflower oil to remain on sale, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) have advised producers can replace sunflower oil with other vegetable oils, such as refined rapeseed oil, without changing labels. The FSA/FSS have advised that allergic reactions to rapeseed oil are very rare. We are changing our labels as quickly as possible but some foods products which usually contain sunflower oil may instead contain refined rapeseed oil.'What! Fortunately I prefer rapeseed oil anyway. I believe that the majority of Vegetable Oil is rapeseed oil anyway in this country. By which I mean, if you buy e.g. supermarket Vegetable Oil, it is invariably 100% rapeseed (which is just how I like it, but I always check). But it seems a bit dodgy to allow rapeseed oil to be put into bottles labelled as 100% Sunflower oil (or more pertinently, at least failing to mention the presence of rapeseed). Its interesting that there is minimal occurrence of allergy to rapeseed are very rare. I'd not really thought about it before, but a field of rapeseed can I believe often trigger hayfever, and as for my wife, going close to rapeseed plants in full bloom are likely to send her into a spin. But no problem with consuming the oil. Still, I guess its a good job the shortage isn't being backfilled with groundnut oil.....

As a result of Coventry BS watching the news they sent out this email to all their customers:
"You might have heard that the Bank of England increased the Base Rate on Thursday 5 May to 0.25%."
No correction as yet.

Keith Anderson of Scottish power suggesting we all pay an extre 40 quid for the next 10 years!. After my dealings with his company maybe he should sort out his customer service and address the massive complaints his firm gets before lecturing to everyone else how to do things. Absolute twat.

The first semi final of this years Eurovision song contest is later today (followed by the second semi final on Thursday and the final at the weekend).
UK get a bye to the final as they are one of the 'big 5', and our entry this year is currently third favourite (albeit a long way behind Ukraine).

When we think it's bad, I struggle to imagine how people in the Philippines feel with a Marcos back in power given how corrupt Ferdinand and Imelda were

I thought the Eurovision semi was a hoot. Wasn't keen on the Ukraine entry, but I'm sure they'll win on the sympathy vote. By far the best ( i.e. funniest) was the Norway entry, "Give That Wolf a Banana" by Subwoolfer. ...... Yes, honestly. The first three lines are probably enough to set the scene: "Not sure that I told you, but I really like your teeth That hairy coat of yours with nothing underneath Not sure you have a name, so I will call you...................................................................KEITH! Priceless
