Just imagine if the UK put up a single national team, instead of four regional ones... We would be like the Windies cricket team. Forever arguing who should be in the team and complaining of bias. Kinda the opposite, really... One country - several "national" teams. Several countries - one "national" team. Why would there be more argument about merit over who the best players are than there is now...?

I assume you are joking, If the English can't agree on who is the best in a particular position then with 4 nations impossible. the other thing is coaches favour certain teams or types of player,as an example Dan Biggar brings little to the Welsh team bar kicking these days yet still gets in ahead of much better overall players

Yorkshire - population 5.4m Wales - population 3.1m Why not field a Yorkshire "international" side?

There's surely a big clue in "inter-national"? One would imagine the minimum requirement is to be at least a nation, rather than a county...
They were the rules when I used to shoot for my country anyway. 😁

England beat South Africa Scotland beat Japan Wales beat Australia (France beat New Zealand) Tagging ozboy because he's a (yellow sticky taped)... good sport . even better news though: Scotland only very narrowly beat Japan..... (that powerhouse of southern hemisphere rugby) Southern hemisphere? I know things move quickly at my advancing age, but even the clever Japanese haven't yet mastered tectonic plate movement... 😁

Yorkshire - population 5.4m Wales - population 3.1m Why not field a Yorkshire "international" side? A) in the case of Rugby they play that funny touch Rugby game ( League ) oop North B) I won't go into cricket right now But seriously though in terms of football I suspect Yorkshire could give Wales a run for their money, and possibly in commonwealth games etc in terms of independence I'm sure Yorkshire could better stand on its own than Wales ( but that's a gut feeling i haven't researched it ) Republic of Wales with President Drakeford .....

I found it amusing that some are moaning the Kier Starmer has appointed a non lawyer as shadow Justice Secretary.
Why ?
Are they saying foreign secretary should be foreign, Chancellor should be an accountant, Minister for rural affairs should be a farmer, minister in charge of DWP should be a pensioner or on benefits, health minister a Doctor or Nurse. Actually in the last 2 cases maybe, a front line Doctor or Nurse who can see the issues caused by the bureaucrats, Someone on benefits who has seen the issues caused by the bureaucrats, and processes.

It isn't as though the shadow cabinet or cabinet are short of lawyers. Though the legal advice they provide to HMG often seems not to be the finest, judging by all the times lawyers end up stopping the government doing what it wants.

It would be nice if either cabinet had some scientists, rather than historians, lawyers, journalists, shop stewards and pro-politicians
