I personally also suspect that it was some kind of accident this landed on the beach (at least I hope to God that is the case). Although what the hell they are doing firing cluster munition missiles in the first place is a big question for me - from what I understand these are primarily used on the battlefield against troops not against military sites. A number of people have said the US has to be heavily involved in the targeting and operation of these advanced weapons, whether they have a Ukrainian solider pushing the button is pretty much irrelevant. Just because I am appalled by Russian tourists on a beach sustaining horrific injuries from a US weapon many countries have outlawed and want this conflict to end ASAP does not make me a fan of Russia and Putin. As I have pointed out a number of times I am also appalled by the horrific use of Soviet Era thermobaric weapons by Russia. I am against war in general - especially nuclear war which I fear is now closer than ever. " I am against war in general - especially nuclear war which I fear is now closer than ever. " - you really doing a poor job in here My main concern of nuclear war is actually the middle east not Ukraine/Russia - however I think both are extremely dangerous for the future of humanity.

Why now? 1. He knows he is losing the war. 2. He knows Biden is going to lose the US Presidential election. 3. He knows Trump will become the next President of USA. 4. He knows that Trump will not continue to support Ukraine in a war against Russia. A big slap in the face for USA! Attachments:

Are you saying it is a fake video made by Russia using a Zalensky lookalike fake actor? I don't think there's any news in "Ukraine wants war to end". They just don't want it to end by giving the keys to the country to the invader. This has been the case since the start of 2022. I'm querying the spin in "concedes defeat", and the logic behind your interpretation of this Kremlin propaganda meme.

The EU and NATO are worried about corruption in Ukraine, what a well worn tired pathetic excuse of a delay tactic that is.

I hope he enters into negotiations with the Russians ASAP before the Ukrainian lines collapse under the pressure - history has shown once the lines collapse and the army retreats this leads to horrific numbers of casualties *. * - and the Russians have said one of their aims in the "Special Military Operation" is to "Demilitarise Ukraine" (destroy the Ukrainian Military)

I was in the passport office in Kyiv about a year before the war started. In an open-plan office with lots of people in earshot and coming/going, we had to pay an additional £20 in cash (so probably felt more like £50 would to a Brit in the UK but still not a huge amount) in order to ensure "personal involvement" during the passport process (of my children who have dual-nationality). i.e. It wouldn't get lost and would jump the various queues to get it quicker. Yes we have fast-track and premium but that is an official service. The £20 I paid went into the pocket of the lady. I could never imagine going to HM Passport Office in London and negotiating to pay £50 in cash to anyone working there. Needless to say that 80% of her salary would never be declared in the official figures. Corruption was and is rampant at all levels.

The rest of your post is a combination of rewriting history and hogwash:- 1. Putin forced Ukraine into this war. And don't forget that significant Western aid didn't start arriving until some time after Zelensky's "I don't need a ride, I need ammunition" comment. That was in 2022. 2. The US, with or without the help of The Clown, didn't force Ukraine to reject the "Istanbul Agreement". There were peace negotiations, of a sort, and they did take place in Istanbul, but Russia essentially demanded the capitulation of Ukraine. Not surprisingly Ukraine rejected this, and not long after the tide seemed to turn in their favour. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_negotiations_in_the_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine3. My assessment (and history will tell), is that a) Russia is unlikely to be able to achieve any kind of significant breakthrough in 2024, but that even if it does b) it does not have the capability to exploit one. But yes, there's no doubt that Ukraine is under pressure. Meanwhile Russia experiences 1000+ casualties / day, along with the loss or destruction of astonishing amounts of materiel. How long can Russia keep this up? Sadly, too long. 4. Russia will probably push hard this summer, in the hope that it can make gains before the US election in November. It will be interesting to see what happens if it fails to make significant gains, or Biden wins. 5. If Trump wins it could be very, very grim for Ukraine. Equally Trump is so mercurial he could double down in support of Ukraine simply because he felt slighted in some way eg if Russia rejects his purported "peace plan".

Your own quoted link includes this paragraph. At the very, very, least you must surely concede that Johnson may well have had a negative effect on talks. Also, I don't agree it would have ended up with Putin getting the keys to the capitol and the rest of Ukraine. Probably some areas of the Donbass and Crimea - i.e. what they have now albeit with up to a million dead and tens of millions displaced (including me). According to a May report from Ukrainska Pravda, the Russian side was ready for a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin, but it later came to a halt after the discovery of War crimes in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in particular the Bucha massacre on 1 April. In a surprise visit to Ukraine on 9 April, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said "Putin is a war criminal, he should be pressured, not negotiated with," and that the collective West was not willing to make a deal with Putin. Three days after Johnson left Kyiv, Putin stated publicly that talks with Ukraine "had turned into a dead end".

According to the Colonel, Russia is so pissed off at the US it has told their military scientists to help the Houthis improve their missile technology. This might explain this:
It seems that the 2 fighter jets the RAF sent to bomb yemen didnt do much to stop them. They now have more advanced missile technology than we do.

EDIT: This was in reply to michaelc's post above. I accept that Johnson may have had an effect on the talks, though I'd suggest that the discovery of Russian war crimes was more important. Johnson was just articulating the reality on the ground at the time. Whether it was negative or not is open to interpretation. There isn't one single correct answer, and I don't pretend to supply one. Instead there are a range of answers that entail different costs and risks. Michael, you obviously feel that this war is terrible, and I agree with you. Where our stances diverge is on how terrible a Russian annexation of Ukraine (even just another part of it) would be, both in terms of immediate treatment of Ukrainian populations in conquered oblasts, and in terms of the longer term strategic situation in Europe.

It seems you now agree with most of my post. I am aware you disagree with my view that Ukraine is being used to fight a proxy war against Russia that is not in its own interest and that the US does not give an damn about Ukraine or Ukrainians or what happens to what is left of Ukraine after Russia wins this conflict and the US moves onto its next geo political scheme in Taiwan*, but I did not mention that. * - Any more than they cared about Vietnam or Afghanistan after they decided to leave them to their fate.
