So now pretty clear the intermediate IBCM _was_ the Russian response. Now over to Zelensky and Biden as to whether they want to keep lobbing atacms and SS into Russia. I assume each attack would provoke an escalation. Its not an ICBM, its an intermediate range missile like Cruise & Pershing, phased out under the INF treaty but now back on the board following Trumps abandonment of the treaty (on basis of Russian non-compliance)I think it would be fairer to say that it is back on the board due to Russian non-compliance, triggering US treaty abandonment. A subtle difference, but puts the blame more firmly where it should be I think. FWIW, I think Trump got that decision right. It had become a farce, very sadly - considering what it took to get that treaty in place, and the reasons it made a lot of sense to have it in place.

Forgive me but I thought it was common ground that RT is the mouthpiece of the Russian government. www.rt.com/russia/608003-ukraine-putin-oreshnik-missile/The strapline says "The strike was launched in response to Kiev’s use of Western-made long-range missiles, the president has said" When talking nonsense, at least be polite about it.

Regarding confrontation with the west, Putin has been pretty restrained. Attacking a western power with any kind of weapon would be quite a leap in escalatory terms. It would almost certainly be a conventional attack of the kind I mentioned. What would our response be and what should it be to that ?I would think the question would be what would NATO's response be? And that is why it (probably) won't happen. The same if they targeted Poland or Germany. What would it be? A massive and disproportionate response ? A nuclear response killing hundreds of thousands ? All for a couple of troops in Aldershot?

It is going to be very interesting to see if Starmer backs down on his War with Russia once Trump gets into office. Is Starmer going to suggest that the UK goes to go it alone against Putin and his Army? I think he is going to find he has really painted himself in a corner and it might very well be the end of his political career. How many people in the UK want to be at war with Russia?
