Nicola Sturgeon resigned to have more fun in life. There was no mention of all the money.
I knew it was too good to be true that she would step aside voluntarily without hounding every future UK prime minister for eternity about another referendum. Her complete legacy whatever your opinion of it is now totally destroyed. I'm seeing Sturgeon and Merkel holidaying together and swapping stories about their achievements.

I cant see even the die hard followers sticking with SNP now. I read Mr Salmond is now sticking the knife in, adding his disappointment that the party is in decline and it wasnt like that in his day. Politicians... professional bull shitters.

Politicians... professional bull shitters. The die hards will always remain unmoved by any conceivable outrage. The soft voters on the margin, however, are a completely different prospect - and elections are won on the margin.

Every now and again you see some allegations of financial impropriety, and you think how on earth did they think they could get away with it. In this respect the SNP appears to be right up there with the likes of Sam Bankman-Fried and Allen Stanford.
As I understand it between 2017 and 2020 the SNP raised over £600k to fund an independence campaign, and it was claimed that the money was ring fenced for this purpose. In May 2021 MP Douglas Chapman resigned from his role as the party's treasurer, saying he had not been given enough information to do his job. Despite there not having been an independence campaign since the £600k was raised, the assets of the SNP at the last audit were just over £200k, with about half of this being cash.
Why on earth did the leadership of the party (Nicola + hubby) not think that somebody would notice this discrepancy, and start asking questions?

The soft voters on the margin, however, are a completely different prospect - and elections are won on the margin. According to a Yougov poll taken on 31st March, SNP support has fallen by 9 points since the last election. Following today's carry on that will probably have fallen further.
Main beneficiaries are Labour. I think Starmer is a decent, intelligent man who went to the same surgeon as Gordon Brown to get his charisma by-pass.

Interesting thought: was Sturgeon's resignation and the relatively short (6 weeks) period to elect her replacement timed to avoid this impending implosion ? Does the mere thought that might be the case, along with his positive comments regarding Murrell prior to his resignation, mean that Humza Yousaf is going to end up being the Liz Truss of the Scottish Parliament ?

Was just thinking the same thing. Lettuce might be making a comeback Forbes team already claiming the election was a con as Humza wouldnt have won if Murrell had been detained earlier.

I suspect that he may regret being branded the 'continuity' candidate.

Funny that was my thoughts re humza may not last long. Was there not 20 million set aside for the next independence campaign? From memory there was a right old argument about why Scottish government would pay for the SNP campaign.
Either way, I hope Scotland has s brighter future without her.

Police sieze £100k motor home from Nicola's mother in law. I wonder why a 92yo needs a motor home?

Is Sturgeon going to get the opportunity to change her mind on what it's like in a women's prison with dubious transgenders ? Then again financial fraud is a white collar victimless crime in the UK where justice is rarely served cold.

I guess it would be the ultimate irony. Nicola get banged up with a transgender cell mate.
