eventually arrived in a private car at 16:40, basically a day wasted as they refuse to do redelivery and the depot is 40 miles and an hours drive away

You can always arrange a "safe place" to leave in the parcel if you are going out. Or you could use a same day courier at a quid a mile! Like i said, you get what you pay for.

Evri sent email today saying parcel out for delivery, expected between 1200-1400. 1221 delivery status updated to
"We're sorry we haven't been able to deliver today. We'll update your tracking when it's on the way on the next working day" How can they know at 1221 that they're unable to deliver today unless they're trying to say that no one was home which would not be correct. I think I need to change my forum name to Victor Meldrew.

Have you got the apps for Royal Mail, Evri, DPD? They are very handy as you can set instructions for delivery drivers when you are "not home". Just make sure the safe space is not any council waste bin

I was home. Anyway after posting this they updated the status to out for delivery again with a time of 1300-1500. It arrived at 1420. Not sure what they're palying at. Perhaps the original driver just said sod it, I'm not working today.

The van's broken down or been in a collision? The driver's had to clock out because of illness or personal issues? It's simply so far behind schedule that in order to get the day's collections done, they're having to abort the last deliveries?

It seems I'm the only person in the world who thinks Evri have improved massively in the last year. I've sent around 500 parcels with them this year and had one loss (it was eventually found and delivered) and two other problems that were caused by the receiver.
Not bad for £2.38 for a 1kg parcel delivered in 3 days.

Actually after posting the original comment, I was quite impressed. At the time of my original post, I had received an email telling me a delivery time and then another within that window telling me they can't deliver today and would reschedule.
That rescheduling happened within an hour and my new delivery window was only an hour later than originally stated.
What I would've preferred is they held ground a bit longer from the first email cancellation as I'd already rescheduled a shopping trip for the delivery only to reinstate it to reschedule again but I guess they're damned if they do, damned if they don't.
