Once again, I am at a loss to understand what all the fuss is about with Phillip Schofield. Is this supposed to be important, whatever he is supposed to have done? Isn't it just telly? I don't understand the 21st century, I really don't. It gets its knickers in a twist about things that are completely trivial, while the big problems are never dealt with in any meaningful way. What a world we live in.

This is important because it involves a member of the media tribal camp and hence it dominates the news, because media people think they are the the most important things in creation and hence by extension this boring non story must be important too. It's like London, same thing if it happens there stop the presses , news flash, same story Scunthorpe back page of echo, maybe.

So a 50yo man who considered himself to be the king of daytime TV used his influence to get a teenage boy a job. He subsequently started a 'romantic' relationship with the boy / man, initially in an ITV dressing room. When challenged about the relationship, he lied to his employer and work colleagues, in order to try and cover up the affair. Now it's become public, he is playing the victim and saying how sorry he is and how much he regrets his actions. Overall, a bit like watergate. It wasn't the his actions that caused his demise, it was trying to cover it up.
Is all of this more noteworthy than all the cr*p in the media? (for example the MP that Labour finally suspended recently, even though lots of people in HOC were aware of his inappropriate conduct towards younger female MP's).
I guess in Schofield's case the media are gloating over how the mighty fallen.

I think you've both hit the nail on the head. The media is a ferocious beast that eats its own. And now "poor old Phil" is wallowing in self-pity and going completely over the top. It's almost as bad as the Harry and Meghan circus. Sigh.

Oh god, my joke comment in relation to women's football coverage now has a separate thread ... this forum is doomed I tell you, doomed.

Its probably not that often I agree with Piers Morgan, and given his tendency to be a Rottweiler perhaps this should be taken with a pinch of salt, but a sentiment I think I can agree with (esp. as he caveats it with "...assuming his version of events is not contradicted..."
Piers Morgan slams 'relentless persecution' of Phillip Schofield

It will all die down in days to come. I find it a bit sad when this sort if stuff and potential government involvement takes over when there are other areas of priority. I dont particularly like mail rajan style of interview, he was the same recently with Branson. Asked him if he felt regret " taking advantage " of the women in the old virgin ads. One of the reasons I ditched my license.

Probably if he hadn't lied about it, it would be more of a storm in a teacup. The other guy was young (and he may have known him when he was really young) and there was a power situation, but for me the lying is the worst thing. The whole thing is about people in a superior, powerful position potentially taking advantage of young vulnerable people. Because it is someone in a very forward facing TV role it becomes more news than if it was Fred Bloggs.

I guess the interest is in watching the cover up of a cover up. This matter (including the identity of runner 35y his junior) has been in the public domain for about 3 years. The notion that I knew more about his shenanigans than the wife, bosses and best buddy/squeaky cotton wool-like colleague seems implausible to say the least...

The whole things a joke but it will be interesting to see who knew what because I think a few brown envelopes have been passed around to save a lot of skins.
The young man involved all of a sudden got a promotion to another tv show that he wasn't due but the ITV/good morning bosses didn't know about the relationship doesn't quite add up.
I've seen the picture from the NTA's and it is obvious he is looking at the young man which surely someone would have questioned within the management group as a lot of papers outside figured it out.
I've even seen an article the young man did where he states that he was never questioned about it at all.
As for Holly's heart felt message, talk about throwing someone under a bus. Interesting she felt the need to point out he said he lied, he fell on his sword because he had lied to them and all of that. Felt a bit over the top to me and was someone trying to protect themselves.

The main difference being both in this story are the same gender.

Im not quite sure what hes supposed to have done... does having an affair at work with someone a lot younger, and then lieing to your boss mean a person should then have their life ruined and face uk wide condemnation and ridicule.. not in my book.
