I get a notification of prices every morning not from octopus I'll check who later. adrianc Do you get a situation where electricity's high, gas cheap ("I'll do dinner on the hob instead of the oven") or vice versa ("I'll turn the boiler off and put a fan heater/immersion on")? yes it can happen with tracker, and more so with Agile for electricity and if we get the proposed free electricity sessions then definitely

There is reference to Octopus Energy in the 'about' bit. So is that the wholesale price, or the current OE charged price ? It wasn't clear from the 'about' and I quickly tried to see if I could find a separate source for wholesale price to compare/contrast but wasn't successful.

At the bottom of the home page is states; All rates as of 11/01/2024 include VAT and are taken from Octopus Energy's publically available API and are given without guarantee.. I don't know where to find wholesale prices.

The emails they send out show the current OE price you will pay (inc VAT). Here's the one received today.

When I viewed the info within my octopus account, it showed several different prices throughout the day e.g. electric got more expensive between 4pm and 7pm. The email and gastracker site just show a single price. What am I missing?

The website shows Tracker which is based on the day's wholesale price.

As an existing Octopus customer, at lunchtime yesterday I requested a switch from Flexible to Tracker and received an email later that afternoon confirming that I was switched with immediate effect!

Not sure really how a fixed daily tariff can help too much because some tasks will be required daily whereas hourly changes could make you cook at different times for example. Is there anywhere that the agile tariffs are detailed the day before?

I think there's some confusion - the Tracker tariff is based on the day's wholesale price and is a fixed price per unit for the day (17.07p/kWh for me tomorrow). I was on Agile but changed to Tracker. I'm a fairly low user so wasn't really benefitting much. The daily rates, as well as historical rates for all Octopus tariffs are listed here. mysmartenergy.uk/

No, and that is an issue with all IHDs
very very few have the right tariffs and standing charge values. these are picked up from the meter, however because the DCC network is almost at capacity most suppliers don't update the meters unless requested, the network is so bad that meter suppliers struggle to get required firmware updates out. There was a case when a meter maker sent out a firmware update that stopped those meters being smart, it took 3 updates and over 6 months to get a lot of those meters back online.
octopus have a new piece of kit in testing that should enable much better information to users hopefully this will get through testing and will give customers better sight of their data.
