Similar to last year you get paid to use less electric at certain times
But this year there will be an equivalent to the old Power Hours scheme where you get free electricity at certain times ( well actually you will get points equivalent to your spend ), those with battery will also be paid to discharge the battery at times of shortage.
The other difference is that you will be able to exchange points for credit, or Octopus branded merchandise, it is also expected that Entertainment and food related offers will be available.

You reckon the last year my Electricity bill is £500 give or take of which £180 is the standing charge My Solar export is £728 at an average price of just over 25P a unit now they won't be paying me more than they can but it at elsewhere so that means that over the last year it's been costing on average 25p+ per kWh add in their overheads for staff etc and it will be > 30p a unit. 2021 I earned less that 8p a kWh for export, 2020 was 7.5p

Mine was around 7 grand.

Bloody hell you running Blackpool illuminations or do you live in a very large mansion with heat pumps, swimming pool, and several EV's
I guess we are probably both outside the average range though

I don't have solar panels, but wondered:
- how robust are they in terms of standing up to impact from hail stones
- do they get covered in moss/algae and become less efficient
- are they covered by standard household insurance.

No damage so far and we've had a few good storms they get bird muck dust etc, snow in a winter usually cleans then, rain in the summer washes them, they have a coating that stops most rubbish sticking yes if you tell the company

I don't think that the average customer has solar panels stook on the roof. Not the "average", but a non-trivial proportion. Apparently, about 1.3m properties now have domestic solar PV - nearly 7% of the total number of UK houses and bungalows. That's rising rapidly, as the installation cost falls. We don't have PV, but we do have solar hot water, installed in the mid-late 00s, before we moved here. No way would that be going on now - it'd be PV. If ever it has a problem, it's getting swapped for PV like a shot.

It would gain me 1 point, and save around £80 a year at current prices, I was quoted £4,999, 60 year payback ! Solar gets 10 points , 50% more cost, but currently worth over £1,000 a year, even today at the end of October my 4.2kWp system is producing 1,100 Watts. Solar PV vs Solar water heating is a no brainer For information, I expect my electricity bill for October to be < £10 including VAT and standing charges. Of course November - January will be worse February about the same but March - September I'm usually in credit

Not taken advantage of the news scheme but just recommended 2 friends to join up £50 each on first payment. Not bad and in one case 5p a kw/h cheaper than ovo

Not taken advantage of the news scheme but just recommended 2 friends to join up £50 each on first payment. Not bad and in one case 5p a kw/h cheaper than ovo Given "average" usage of £2900 kWh a year that's nearly £150 less, nudge then to sign up forOctoplus The new scheme has influenced me. Paid just over £1000 for 3.5kW of extra battery If I export 3kWh from the new battery in each of the 12 saving sessions that's 36kWh at an average of around £2 £72. I will also be able to suck up more free electricity during the "power hours" £1000 with a 10 year life ( Should actually last 15-20 ) is £100 a year, so not mega expensive The extra battery will enable me to use cheap overnight imports all day even in the worst winter weather. It will also allow me to export more at peak rates the rest of the year ok that's only an extra 12p or so per kWh but 36p a day it will mount up over the year. could be naughty and say that the return is better than what I've had from several P2P investments

There's a Savings Session tonight 1730 to 1830. I didn't receive a notification for it. You have to opt in on the app/website. Just to clarify this is where you get paid for using less energy. It is not a cheap energy session.

It is not a cheap energy session. I am new to this, do you have to switch off the Mains circuit breaker in order to get savings? or just by using less?
