Matt Gaetz has withdrawn his name from nomination for Attorney General, rather than go through the vetting and approval process... Which begs an interesting question (or two). He had resigned from Congress, will he/can he unresign (and then of course the report will be published). Or will he fade away and let the election re-run happen, or let it happen and stand again?

On and off since 2021, the secretive House Ethics Committee has investigated Gaetz over various allegations, including claims that he had sex with an underage teenage girl, used illicit drugs, accepted bribes, misused campaign funds and shared inappropriate images on the House floor.
The committee has produced a report, but a vote on whether it should be released was deadlocked at 5 - 5 (split along party lines). I assume retiring from front line politics will make it easier to keep the report under wraps.

He said the "mainstream right" too and I would agree with that. So who is the ostrich? We don't have a "mainstream right" in the UK - the remainder of the Tories that survived Johnson and Truss are now in a death-spiral to cuddle up to Reform. The "mainstream right" in the US that survived the Tea Party's poison chalice was killed by the Trumpkins. Two simple yes/no questions for you, michaelc 1. Do you think the scientific consensus is aligned behind anthropogenic climate change being a serious and imminent threat? 2. Do you believe that consensus? 1/ Yes 2/ I don't know because despite coming from a scientific/mathematical background myself I think there is considerable political pressure on many within the consensus. Just look at the recent vaccine debacle where the consensus wanted and still wants in many cases to give covid vaccines to tots.

"tots"...? But anyway - what would you suggest the proportion of benefit : harm in that 5-11 age group is? I'd suggest the benefit massively outweighs the harm, and I'd suggest that real-world statistics support that. I'd also suggest that this conspiracy guff around covid vaccination does a lot of harm to acceptance of other vaccinations, leading to a much higher rate of real-world harm from things like measles. This all goes back to the Andrew Wakefield guff, of course. Or are you suggesting that Wakefield was right?

Well, Google. Fairbanks to DC is 4161 miles and Fairbanks to Wainwright is 1 day and 23 hours by air...

All are incredibly narrow, so it's going to be recounts-a-go-go... and all are Republican incumbents. California 13th - 102,653 R : 102,443 D California 45th - 157,622 D : 157,041 R Iowa 1st - 206,951 R : 206,153 D They won't make any real difference - there's already a Republican majority, albeit only by one seat.
