Oh no your not alone.. I have been T.W.O.* all my life.
My first road vehicle was a Yamaha FS1E, it was a 50cc road rocket when I was sweet 16
Now my "best bike" is this little Duck Multistrada.
* Two Wheels Only Whilst I have a couple of bikes presently my most unusual one is a Blackbird (cbr1100xx) that I've bored and supercharged, zx12r front end, blade rear end and I've lightened it ..... a lot. A real 'fun' ride The duck is quackers. The Blackbird is, in my humble opinion, one of the best bikes every built. Can't you post some piccies hosted at photobucket or something? I would love to see that. :-)

EDIT I've done strange things with cars as well, did you know you can fit a Rover V8 into a Hilman Imp with a Hewland box? Hi duck. not a bike man, so cannot comment much, but your edit put a big smile on my face, a rover V8 in a hillman imp, was it a bit nippy? edit.. just had to google the hewland box to see if it was poss to fit in an imp with a V8 , honest i didn't think that would be possible, but it is, brill, s**t of a s*****L springs to mind.

Yup. works fine. I do like a little tinker with my bikes myself, but that is well beyond anything I would try! I nursed a broken bird back to health some time ago after my friend trashed it. Put it largely back to standard though, some bar risers aside. Currently in limbo waiting for decision on work and so based in a small apartment with nowhere to park anything, but the KTM 1290 SA will be on the shopping list as soon as I have somewhere to park it! Last bike, up till late last years was a BMW K1300GT. Seriously under rated bit of kit, if a little heavy and rev happy on the motorway. Always looking for 7the gear!

I've been driving an E class for the last six years and loved it. Had circumstances not changed (company relocating out of Belgian tax hell to go to Prague) I would have ordered a new one nearly a year back. As it was I was talked in to taking a now surplus to requirements Audi A4 instead, as taking on a new lease on the Mercedes would have been very silly if it had to go back after 6 months. Anyway, I found the Audi a good solid car, well built but astonishingly boring. But then it was the 1.9 diesel specially strangled to avoid tax on power. Mind you, everything seems to be strangled by tax in Belgium. The A4 just died, or a bit of it did. A wheel bearing I think. I dumped it back at the office and picked up a now also surplus to requirements A5 Sportback. Very pretty car and better than the A4 in every respect. I did once test drive an A6 as a possible alternative to the Mercedes, but I just preferred the Mercedes. The Mercedes engine seemed punchier, the auto gearbox smoother with better responses. The Audi engine was smoother and quieter though. In the end the interior swung me back to the Mercedes, much nicer than the Audi. Much nicer than most anything, really. Anyway, quite pleased with the A5, just a pity that in all the company upheaval that it's obviously been passed through a few hands and not all have taken care of it. Only 30,000 or so on the clock and there are loads of scrapes and scratches when you look closely. Pity. Hi xyon.. i totally agree with you , audi's do have that little bit of boredom about them, maybe when new, they are, too over engineered, i didnt see anything there about beemers, so ill take it we agree there, the beemers are a good car, but its the perception of people who drive them.. not so good. I am open to trying a merc and i keep thinking i'll have to give one a try, tho not sure which one yet, i like the look of the C class. my son driving an A5 at the mo, he loves it, (but hes a young-un) but the A6, its a big heavy car, and to get the best out of it you have to go with a big engined A6, preferably S-line and not diesel, theirs no such thin as a fast tractor. Please , by all means, try and convert me to merc, i am susceptible, and may even try one next, wont be a new one tho, we love the q7 too much. I did have BMW 3 series and a C class, but that was 2000 for the BMW and 2005 for the C class. At the time, the BMW was by far the better buy, even if it did eat headlight bulbs. The C class was OK, but it really just did not feel like a quality car. The E class is another world. Oh, and the BMW was used a LOT. At about a 100,000 miles it started to feel tired, was smoking more than it should and there was a hole in the power. Like the turbo might have been on the way out? Final straw was when I went to top up the oil and noticed the cam chain guide at the top was broken and hanging on with one screw. That was disaster waiting to happen. The garage pushed it in to the workshop! Both cars are simply not the same any more and the new C class looks lovely. And yes, BMW driver image. You know, it's really not that much different with a Mercedes. People seem to think you only drive them to get up their nose! Stuff 'em. I'll drive what I like. Same issue on the bikes actually. BMW GS riders in particular come up for some stick for spending too much money on a mediocre bike in order to impress others. Truth is, they are actually really good bikes. But anyway, get a test drive in an E class and see what you think. Of course, it will depend on how you drive and where. I have been in the north of England and the Czech Republic in the space of three days and although I'm sure that while many cars could do it as well, few could do it any better. ;-)

.... do bike riders actually suffer the same intolerance that bm and merc drivers suffer? Some do, some don't but if there is a common thread riders know they can get past when they want to, so why get stressed. That said when I had to commute to near London some of the 'filtering' that I saw on the M4 frightened the life out of me +90mph weaving between traffic that was still doing 70mph.
