They don't need to invest, just sign up.

Monday 18th April 19.45am, 7486 members, up 183 from a week ago. Average of 26.1 new members per day. Let's hope we don't lose these members, because they can't invest at the moment.

Does make me wonder why so many people are signing up with nothing on the SM. Oh for the days when loads were plentiful. 7553 this morning

Oh for the days when loads were plentiful. 7553 this morning Signing up is one thing, actually depositing money and investing is another. I signed up on multiple sites just to check out what was on offer, I'm sure many others do the same. As for the 7553 members, I think significantly less than that have actually invested.

True, but this is the only data we have published from SS, and I think everyone is aware of its limitations. We can look for trends, and see when ss's growth slows or falters or indeed accelerates. At the moment very few of the recently signed up will have been able to invest for obvious reasons. Bring on the next loan, my money is burning a hole in my pocket, or I might go to Vegas at the weekend.

This was touched upon a couple of months back in a thread I started here. At the of the thread, it was guestimated (via statistics from other P2P site) that about 40% of registered investors are "active".

Yep, SS have changed the front page bit as well, you used to be able to see what was for sale without login, now you have to sign up first, and login, maybe why we are seeing the numbers rising quicker than normal.

Someone else too. When I posted this the other day, all the responses were along the lines that you've always had to do this. At least I'm not going mad.

The rising number of investors is probably one of the reasons we got 60% allocation from number 94 (not complaining) .

Liz I wonder if there is a number somewhere that shows the amount of registered investors, that are actually investing. No doubt there is, but i wouldn't know of the top of my head where to look.

There isn't. Buty we can take a good guess ( read here) From the above post, my best guess was 40%. However, I do think that percentage is probably slightly lower (between 30-35 %). Only SS really know, but total registered investors looks like a much better number to show off on their website
