I thought I would share this with you lot Right, I gave up smoking on Good Friday........correction.....I gave up tobacco on G.F. .......smoking on the following Sunday. This is the second time I've given up....the first time was for 15 years.....then I fell for a woman who smoked......enuff said!.....perhaps that should say snuff! I have come to the conclusion that it isn't the nicotine I get addicted to...........or even the taste........it is the drama......I hand rolled cigarettes which is all part of it, the action of lighting, and sometimes relighting, and all the elements involved in the actual deed. I tried yahoogling for alternatives to tobacco, and found loads of weird and wonderful herbal concoctions (all were very expensive). However, I found green tea was also smoked. So I thought I would try ordinary black tea......a bit harsh taste wise.....but noticed the filter was remarkably clean. Next off to Sainsbury's, fair trade green teabags were on offer.....I fancied the mint ones as they could be more palatable, but they had sold out (methinks someone else had the same idea!). Anyway armed with the ordinary ones and a packet of mint imperials, off to try it out. A far more acceptable taste, even with out the mints, one could get used to. By Sunday I found myself not smoking so much and I was just going thru' the motions, so decided just to stop.......Haven't even thought about smoking since, until deciding to share my thoughts with you. So, my conclusions are if you want to find out which bit of smoking you are addicted to, try the green tea challenge. It is really seriously cheap, none addictive, cleaner and healthier (ie no tar or nicotine). Only one problem I found was that as it is like a coarse powder it does tend to drop out....but once lit is fine and burns a lot better than hand roll tobacco. If you try this, do please share your experience......as it would be a real bonus to know someone else benefitted from this. ps just had a thought used black tea might be less harsh....and even cheaper!!!!!!! (top tip.........suggest you let it dry out 1st!!!)

I smoked thirty a day for thirty years. Until June the 24th last year. I haven't had a cigarette since. I am, however, completely reliant on an e-cig / vaping. So I haven't tried to give up nicotine.
Still, that's some 9000 cigarettes I haven't smoked. And £3500 I haven't spent.

Skippy i stopped last july, 20 a day marl lights , i'm on one of those E-cigs, and they are foul.. smoked for nearly 40 years, how hard is it?... very b****y hard , Di not looking, so i'll sneak in that i've had a crafty couple of rollies here and there. to be honest if it wasn't for the health ruining aspect of cigs, i would light one up now and start again.... i am really addicted to nicotine, never touched anything else so not sure if nicotine is as addictive as any other substance. GREEN TEA smoking, not sure about, might try one tho, for experimental purposes and come back to you with my take on it. edit crossed with rm and similarities purely coincidental .

Got to be worth a g, what have you got to lose.......another top tip.....since posting as I got loads of redundant green tea bags I thought I'd try a cuppa.........now that is revolting!!!!!!! If it truly is the dreaded n word you are addicted to try weaning yourself of it by mixing the tea with tobacco and gradually increase the tea content
