I'll endorse EDF as well.
No issues in setting up the contract (solar install firm filled all the forms in for me!)
I get an e-mail from them the first day of the quarter asking for previous quarters readings, and I'm invariably paid within 4 working days.

Personally I think what government should do is insist all appropriate new build has it automatically, then it just becomes standard, no retrofit hassle, no paying for door to door sales people and commission depending on overpricing etc, just simple building spec stuff. On a house say 10 panels at erm £100, inverter trade price erm £300?, wire and stuff, total £1500, less a bit of roofing, not sure which is quicker to fit. 2K tops anyway, maybe less. (No expertise claimed, just seat of pants) If you are talking new builds, then something like this would be much more appropriate www.solarmassltd.comIn the interests of transparency I'd like to point out that I am a shareholder of this company, so distinctly biased, but the reason I bought into it in the first place was because I thought it was a fantastic idea, especially as specialist fitters are not required and most roofers could do it. (I'm sure 'other solar tiles that look this good are available'. Somewhere. )The last time I looked at the figures, it only really made sense for new-builds or re-roof situations, at which point it was similar to fitting normal tiles plus panels, but was not really sensible as a retro-fit to a perfectly good roof for cost reasons. That was some time ago, and costs may have reduced in the meantime - perhaps time I caught up with them. But anyway, a good alternative I feel for those in a position to be able to make use of them, or perhaps due to conservation issues can't have panels fitted. (Sorry such a late contribution - I only very rarely venture into the Chat Room)

Those low profile tiles look like a good idea, I may have to reroof one of my rentals in a conservation area soon, I will look into them .
Thank you for the heads up Rose .

Our problem is Pigeons , pesky things nest under the panels and claw through the cables. No problem with Ducks or flying pigs yet though.

I think I'll duck some of those issues and go with something based on an in-roof option: www.gseintegration.com/en/InRoof.htmlI might be more worried if it wasn't 'only the garage' I guess.

I think with the way our weather seems to get more extreme every year, solar panels look so fragile in the most exposed place.......I wouldn' t touch them......If you want an environmentally friendly and virtually free hot water supply, have you ever considered a geothermal borehole. Basically, cold water is pumped down one hole, heated by The Earth and returned up another hole......I have never investigated installation costs etc. 'cos I live in a first floor flat!!!....I believe you can gov. grants because of its "green" qualities, but if I had a house I intended to stay in I would def. investigate as I think it would be far more rugged/reliable than a load of flimsy looking panels on the roof.....and a lot less ugly!!!!! link

Not fragile they weigh 20kg so say 8 panels bolted to frame = 160kg, not going anywhere.
Things supplier won't tell you.
Supposed to last 25 yrs but due to weight needs scaffolding to repair. £800 gone. Panel output degrades each year maube 1%
Also electronic inverter lifetime no more than 10- 15 yrs.
