If this situation has been caused by an over efficient bot, is this not a reason why bots should be totally banned from the site? And anyone found using them also banned from receiving any interest accrued and their accounts terminated. It is one thing, where two people try to get a piece of a loan at the same time, and you get a small negative balance for a while. It is another where someone can manage to get TEN identical pieces of a loan part that simply does not exist. I think it is a problem for any site when some can gain unfair advantage over others by use of bots. Surely the platform is wanting to attract lenders looking to lend money for a fair return. It's helpful having a liquid secondary market to allow new lenders to become invested quickly, and older lenders to diversify or re-balance or even exit their portfolios. But as soon as we have flippers buying and selling then it takes profit out of the system making it less attractive for bona fide lenders. Ideally the system itself will be designed so that there is no advantage to using a bot (e.g. target setting on AC, or pre-funding on SS), but otherwise the platform itself needs to stamp out or at least severely limit their use. Edit: I'm a software engineer myself so am well positioned to write a bot if so inclined, but I'd much rather a co-operative site with the benefits of crowd due diligence.

Surely all this faffing about could be eliminated by a slight tightening of procedure from SS:
- what we currently think of as "buying" a loan part is really only "reserving" the loan part for subsequent purchase, and
- a loan part attracts no interest until you actually own it - i.e. have paid for it, and
- you can't sell a loan part until you actually own it - i.e. have paid for it.
Who could argue with that? (Replies on a postcard, please :-)

I know of no other interest paying institution which pays interest on monies which have not been paid.

Although when you think about it, with a loan book of around £52m, and about £13k getting interest that it shouldn't really be getting, we are not talking much in the way of cash to be honest. SS are over paying about 0.02% more interest than they should. Which if my maths is right, less than a fiver a day (on the current £13k)

EIDT - no I wasn't interested, just haven't seen anything on the aftermarket for a couple of weeks so the excitement of the possibility of a bit of green was too great .....
