Sure, whatever (will resist jokes about too many chiefs not enough indians..) pom, ok, your promotion is on hold (hopefully not indefinitely) until Indians match chiefs. charles would you like to join our Kiva 'team' perhaps I'll consider Property Crowd as my next p2p venture 😉 @leopardcat how about it?

looks like a worthwhile setup.
One query, this is a "free trial", do you normally have to pay a fee to lend money?

Ahh, so a generous donor(s) (probably corporate, and well done to them if it is) has provided a "pot" that new members can allocate $25 of then - Is that right?
Plus, free of charge (thought a fee sounded strange), we can add some of our own money and lend that out as well.
Just want to make sure I have it clear in my own mind before I pass the link / information on to family and friends.

Ha! Better late than never But I'm mostly just peeved that previous loans don't get credited, specially as I made this my preferred group and quit a previous one hoping this one would inherit them, and we could have made a really flying start - oh well

They will try to persuade you to donate to Kiva at the same time as making a loan for running costs etc, but you can reset that donation to zero if you don't want to donate every time (or at all!).

With synchronicity of timing, somebody mentioned www.shared-interest.com to us last night - anybody know anything about the differences between the two?

With synchronicity of timing, somebody mentioned www.shared-interest.com to us last night - anybody know anything about the differences between the two? Just had a quick look, it seems it just funds fair trade producers, only covers Africa and South America, and from the FAQ states "We are not a microfinance organisation and we do not lend to start-up enterprises or individuals". Organisations getting loans have to have been trading for 3 years and have accounts apparently. Generally unsecured loans at locally competitive interest rates (could well be far higher bank loan rates locally than here or EU I would suspect). Lends to about 400 organisations, doesn't look like you get to choose who you lend to (preferable in my view). So so altoghether quite different really

If anyone else is interested this is a great time to sign up as in promotion of Women's day, Kiva will provide $25 towards the first loan of your choice! www.kiva.org/investinherThen you can add to the impact made by loans provided by members of the forum by joining our group. www.kiva.org/invitedto/p2p_lenders/by/jester

Yeah at least it looks like they still counted the one of mine they then cancelled/timed out so made up for it a bit. And I guess I'd have had an unfair head start on you guys otherwise Edit - hmm hoped we might have had a few more join the party by now...ah well

So do we all get to blame Jester if we invest in a loan that he likes and it goes wrong? . He can ask for his own sub-forum!!!

Well with recycling my money as it's paid back I've now lent $855 since I first joined, and have only lost $1.05 due to currency fluctuations.... Wonder if I'll have as good a result when those defaulted containers get sorted out?
