Thanks jester for bringing this to attention. Although I'm not quite invested into p2p, microfinance is something I believe in. I even wanted to volunteer at the Grameen Foundation before university (but parents heavily vetoed the idea). Nice that I've just made my first loan my side of the world (SEA)! Regards, WengYee

I hope to add a few more loans each month over the next few months but in the meantime I'm impressed with our teams impact over the first week .... We have 9 members with $550 of microfinance loans provided around the globe, across 22 loans in a variety of fields, sometimes literally in the case of the seeds, pigs and dairy cattle .... If anyone would like to join our collective, it's the time to do it, as Kiva will provide a free $25 for you to loan as you wish, in of support International Women's Day on 8th March www.kiva.org/investinher
If you sign up, you can then add to the impact made by members of the forum, by joining our group www.kiva.org/invitedto/p2p_lenders/by/jester

Oh thanks to Neil_P2PBlog then for the introduction! jester I've just joined the group. Gotta bring some diversity in there after all... charles Haha of course I believe in p2p, otherwise I wouldn't have agreed to work for Relendex. When I say 'not that invested', I mean I can't compare to the holdings that most of our fellow forumnites hold.

I've signed up and "loaned" the free $25 for now and then joined the group but it doesn't look like it has been pulled through to the Team Total.

Yeah they only seem to automatically add loan offers made after joining the team but you can add it. Go to your Portfolio, then select My Loans, at the bottom of the screen your loans are listed, each with a drop down menu for which team it's assigned to, choose our team from the menu, will push us to $700, absolutely fantastic @leopardcat I think you're in the same boat if you want to add your first loan to the total in the same way charles your loan also doesn't seem to be counting towards the team total either if you want to add it and contribute

This "assign to team" function is not the most intuitive to use, is it!

Anyone else starting to think jester might have missed his vocation? Should be a ringmaster I think...am sure he'll soon have his whip out urging us towards higher goals $725 now anyway which is great... tho there will be limits to our potential growth. My top tip would be to try pick shorter loans for quicker recycling.

One thing I will never do is chase people to donate/loan more money, that decision is entirely up to the individual. My only hope having read about Kiva after Neil introduced them was to bring them to the p2p forum as they seem the perfect fit with why we're all here! Beyond that by pooling our efforts as an inspiration for others to join the cause seemed to be the way forward! Absolutely delighted we've loaned out over $700 during the buildup to International Women's Day and although I won't be whipping anyone, I'm hoping we can make it to four figures

Did see some fabulous tigers at a permanent circus in Moscow in 1990 (long story) but I wonder if even they may have bowed to animal rights pressure by now? Anyway I digress. Keep up the good work Captain Jester...err..Sir! (not mutinous, honest)

PS similarly delighted actually. They've run similar promos before, and it's always been a little depressing how reluctant people have been to lend out free money !

Just joined, loaned earlier in the week.
My only nag is if they are going to lose money at a rate of 5% (some details number here, but let's use that figure) then the capital will be erroded. I'd think a low level of interest would protect the capital and so make it available again and again and again.
The protection offered to borrowers given that they are borrowing in $ from relatively weak currency is interesting.

alanp excellent work, you took us through the $800 mark _____ and then @bobo thanks so much for joining the p2p team effort, now as a forum we have lent $900 in microfinance, four figures really is looming! As for the predicted 5% loss on money lent, I understand your point but personally as it's goodwill lending I'm more than happy to loan free of interest and top up by 5% each year to maintain a constant level, it's good for the soul.
