[Project Fear was right all along] Resurrecting the B word is dangerous, but it's difficult not to see a common thread running from Gove's "the people of this country have had enough of experts" during the Brexit campaign to Truss/Kwarteng avoiding the Office for Budget Responsibility's scrutiny before announcing their mini-Budget.

I think I was less interested in the word itself, and more interested in the rag it was used in, even if only in the "Comment" section. And by the (an?) assistant editor no less. I'm probably wrong, but I'd like to hope that it's an example of the eviscerating soul searching the Tories need to do if they're ever to recover any credibility.

So apart from the headline struggling to see anything that relates to Project Fear & Brexit, anymore than the consequences of a global pandemic, global supply crunch, etc.

...In all honesty and as a lifelong Conservative voter... partially it's a mindset ( ... my dad voted <PARTY> and so did his dad and if right for them ... ) and it doesn't matter how much they mess up (Look at <recent incompetent policy>) they all put the cross in the box. Of course, that mindset works both ways... Ultimately, our vote does NOT count towards the PM. It counts towards one thing, and one thing only - who our local MP is. Of course the number of MPs of each flavour determines the government - but not the leader of it - but our vote does not in and of itself do that. And, of course, your MP may change parties... So the ONLY sensible way to decide who to vote for is to look at your local candidates as INDIVIDUALS. And, yes, their party allegiance is one part of that. I think race played a far bigger part than either you or I would expect. I would go so far as to say had Rishi been white, he'd have won hands down. Yeh, I don't think there's the slightest doubt as to how much of a part that played with Conservative party members...

The Times now reporting that the cut in basic rate IT to 19p is also going to be chucked on the bonfire by Hunt in order to plug the yawning great hole in finances. Oh dear Truss, not a lot left of the platform you stood on is there.

Hunt has his little beady eye on No 10 as well. He is a great mate of 'Toad of the BofE' and we all know that a plonker...........

Exactly. It's just politics, blame culture and personal ambition over facts and reality. If a man had done exactly the same as Truss up to this point then the reaction would have been totally different. Bring Johnson back, what is he going to do, lie our way out of trouble ? I doubt there is anybody at the moment in any party who would make a great PM given the external global issues and the state of politics. Labour ? Give me a break. Which half ? Starmer has no chance even if things get worse, he's basically ignored by the media as he's wooden but as unlikely PM he would get slaughtered as well. Last Labour government bankrupted the country so now they are going to save us. And Labour blaming the tories for Brexit instead of Corbyn is hilarious? Putin had more influence on Brexit than Labour or Corbyn.

Is that because they gave too much airtime to Hunt ?

The mini-budget is no more. So... other than throwing however many tens of billions of pounds down the proverbial, putting our pensions at risk, trashing the reputation of the country, and holding a funeral, what else have our government achieved since the 6th September?
