The Saffron bit in the last post has just reminded me. If like me, you like and to make authentic and BIR curries etc.......check out the World Foods section before Schwartz or shop brand stuff, packaging size is a lot bigger than those pathetic jars, but even if you threw over half of it away you would still be quids in. I use the microwavable take away containers I've collected over the years for storage of chilli powder, cumin etc., I also use them to store and freeze my delicious meals as you can judge portion size and just microwave when required. They also stack nicely saving freezer space.
Whilst on that subject I always re-use the bags for fresh produce to debox frozen items, all the boxes are different in size and usually about half full of fresh air. taking up valuable freezer space

For herbs and spices in bigger better value packs this place does it for me every time, They stock almost every herb or spice you could want at prices that make those little Schwartz jars look like extortion , and its a real godsend for me as down here in sunny Cornwall some of them are just unobtainable.
Free delivery on orders over £40 as well.. www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Herbs-and-Spices.html
I have no connection to them , just a happy customer.

2 more real tips for you, well 4 actually as both have Health as well Wealth benefits.
If you have fallen for all hype about olive oil think on.......NEVER use it to fry food especially fast cooking stir fries as the temperature at which it starts to smoke is far lower than other oils, this produces harmful toxins. Rape seed oil is now recommended as the healthy option and is a lot cheaper.
If you eat tinned tuna for health reasons, switch to pilchards or sardines......tuna loses a lot of the good stuff during processing, whereas the others don't .....and again they are cheaper.
Just thought of another health tip. If like me you are unfortunate to have the genetic form of high cholesterol then get your daily oats (no not sex!...but there again it is exercise!), apparently it is one of the cheaper foods that reduces c. levels. I buy Asda's own brand muesli at 1.18 for a bag that lasts me just over a week (2 handfuls a day!). It may not be the tastiest, but I think of it as taking my daily medicine.......and it's the tastiest medicine I've ever had!!

those little Schwartz jars look like extortion I agree wholeheartedly. Interestingly I just went to the aforementioned website to check the price differences....I know I have bought cumin, chilli powder and tumeric in the World food aisle in Tesco........they weren't even listed on the site.......I suppose at the prices they charge they can also do blackmail!........Oh and Schwartz are on "Offer" at the moment 2 4 1.

Here's another win win tip this time for motorist.
Because a lot of modern engines cut fuel off during deceleration.....think ahead and go through the gears to slow down, not only will you save fuel, you will save on brake disc pad wear......unless you have KERS like Lewis Hamilton and his mates!!!. And never coast, fuel will still be used to keep the engine alight.

Back my favourite subject scoff I have stopped using a lot of fresh veg and switched to frozen. Ones I recommend are spinach, leeks and my favs brussel sprouts. The spinach comes in like little barbacue shaped brickettes and makes an excellent saag I also bung a couple in when cooking pasta. Leeks I use for vichyssoise which I adore. Now the dreaded brussel sprouts DO NOT put them in boiling water unless you like 'em mushy.....microwave them "dry" in covered pyrex dish for 3 or 4 mins....experimentation is requried Heres the win win win! Not only are frozen veg cheaper, there is no peeling or waste and they are HEALTHIER. The reason being is because modern freezing and delivery is so fast they actually retain more vitamins than fresh stuff. WARNING On no account buy frozen mushrooms I did once they're ok for casseroles other than that they are truly disgusting
Problems getting perfect boiled basmati rice? My tip is wash rice thoroughly (always use a mug to measure.....a mug full will serve 2 generous helpings). After washing, drain off the water and put in a pyrex dish which is big enough for the rice, exactly twice the quantity of water and to allow for expansion. If you have time leave to soak for at least half an hour. Now cover with a lid or plate and Microwave on full power until it comes to the boil mine takes 4 minutes. At this point I quickly put one my defrosted curries in its container onto the plate. Zap on the lowest power for a further 10 minutes. Rice is perfectly cooked everytime, the curry sometimes needs an extra 30secs on full power. Once you get the timing right you will get the same result every time with no clock watching......unless of course you are deaf. Larger quanties can be done, but only the initial full power cycle will be longer

Popping a crushed clove of garlic into perfume will stop it going off in hot weather.

Get a hybrid - it's designed to recover braking energy for goodness sake! How much energy goes into constructing the energy recovery system is another matter of course.

Nope, after 40 years of motoring never had to replace either, my present car is 8 years old and pads still have a few years to go and clutch is fine.

Make your lovers feel young again by giving them a short, unsatisfying and slightly painful experience then taking them out and boasting about it to everybody you meet.
