We don't know who is in the uk, so we can't really know whether 60% have taken part! And unless my maths has gone wonky, I can't see a 60% take up being sufficient for a contagious disease. It feels like another distraction from the herd immunity approach, whilst continuing with it. I wish the government would be honest that they are sticking to that approach, like Sweden have been. Predictions are Stockholm will have herd immunity by end of May.

Mmm; so suddenly the chief risk factors of Covid 19 are no longer age/ underlying conditions, but rather owning a "dumb" phone or none at all. Really!!!! OK,so we might have to give a concession to those who don't have a 'modern' phone. How about plan B then: people who have the app are allowed out of lockdown earlier than the rest?
We just need a bit of an incentive to get people to do something that will benefit for the majority.
That's the Chinese approach - can't leave home/enter certain areas without tapping your phone.

The app activation may be helped with cashback, or even a game to win £ 10mil tax free to encourage participation. Unsure if you are serious or not, but oddly that may well be the answer to getting certain parts of society to embrace it. Random £10 prizes and a weekly draw, would be relatively inexpensive in the big scheme of things. Getting the various tariff suppliers to throw a bit of extra data on to accounts might work equally as well. Not sure what he cheapest smart phone would cost but I would guess £40ish? Get these offered free with a small collection of minutes, texts and data for a limited time to certain qualifying groups and you start to move towards the 60% figure. Other daft ideas are available if anybody wants them.....

We managed to sit or our a@@ s for 6 weeks to give a common benefit. Now we are being asked to load an APP (5 clicks?) and that sounds too much to you.

Another interesting little diversion to take our minds off the economy. Give the snowflake screen junkey a hot chestnut.

A section of the British People: The Government is useless they should be doing what South Korea did, they haven't had a lock down and their death rate is very low
The British Government: We are implemententing a vonluntary tracking and tracing app and a system which is nowhere near as intrusive South Korea's so that we can start lifting the lockdown. That doesn't involve state access to every CCTV system, your phone being tracked regardless of whether or not you have an app and state access to your personal Bank and Credit Card Accounts so that the state can track your every movement and send in the police when you aren't in isolation when the state told you you should be.
The same section of the British People: We won't accept the app because it infringes our civil liberties.

So what's to prevent the local halfwit from standing next to as many people as possible and then thinking it's really funny to report that he has virus like symptoms (where upon the people he stood next to get a message to self isolate).

This app is in very "early" stage. v0.1 Not quite test, track & trace yet. There's a need to test "user". Will the user cooperate and get a test? Or if the user does not cooperate, will the authorities placed signs warning off other people? That's another challenge,

I believe that is one of the reasons for the Isle of Wight test, to determine whether they will notify contacts when someone reports symptoms or when they test positive.
