easynow adrianc Have you had bulk LPG refills recently? and if so what are you paying. I've just called Avanti (my father's supplier) and they are saying that the price now would be the same as he paid in May. This is on variable rate. I was rather pleasantly supplied to hear that as I was concerned it would have gone up from that. He is only just under 50% but with winter coming up and possible pressure on gas prices.....but then I was reading that in the very recent (few weeks?) gas prices (in general) had been easing off. Not for me, my tank is monitored and filled automatically when it gets to a certain level, i will be checking prices when my next bill arrives however due to the wholesale prices falling in recent weeks, We will then see how much my "capped price" is costing me over the norm.

General oil question...why has diesel risen yet again? In some places here its 1.93 with an average of 1.86.
Massive variations across filling stations, demand, £to $ , winter, greed, encouraging people to trade in diesel cars,?

They've just told me that the price would be pretty much the same as Dad paid in May at 52.7 p/l I was a little surprised. So I went to place an order for delivery, but have said I can't place one until it gets below 30%: I'm pretty sure he's been supplied when its not much below 50% before but I must be wrong. Or someone is telling me pork pies.

Do you remember when Tony Bliar told us we all had to buy diesel cars that was to balence out the diesel and petrol production plants across Europe, including Russia. Back then (1984, the book not the date) we were trying to be nice to the monsters. So a lot of diesel comes from places we are gently closing out of the oil business. Hence diesel prices are edging up. Not a lot as there are solutions to this but that is the driver.

Apparently diesel additives cost 7p a litre more and heating oil/diesel demand particularly in winter is increasing costs. Only a few years to go anyway until we are down to 1 car so overall household riad fuel costs should drop..... in theory

The move towards diesel made a lot of sense... in the context of the time.
Back then, the focus was on CO2 emissions. Diesels are unquestionably lower CO2 than petrols. The average new car's CO2 dropped from nearly 180g/km in 2001 to just over 116g/km in 2021.
Then, as diesels became more numerous - and especially as diesel power outputs and performance were increased for marketing purposes - particulates became a problem. Diesel technology was improved, particulates reduced - but the higher combustion temperatures increased NOx, which became a problem.
Now diesel technology is bringing NOx down to petrol levels (this is why the various low emission zones allow Euro4 petrols but only Euro6 diesels - because that's the point that NOx limits came down to the current diesel 0.08g/km), but at the expense of overall reliability from the ever-increasing complexity of DPF, EGR, AdBlu etc.
Ultimately, if you burn a certain amount of hydrocarbon in air, you're going to get the same ingredients back out again - but how you manage the combustion gives you different combinations of them in the exhaust gases. Some we knew were bad, some we then discovered were also bad.

However the modern technology does allow a 3ton box to achieve 30mpg compared to my 2010 civic with no dpf or fancy emissions stuff which does only 44mpg. Either way, in 8 years the ice is dead and road fuel costs will spiral to discourage continued ICE ownership.

Fast forward only about 2 weeks and about another -2% from when I had called them, I was at my father's and Avanti delivery man called. To say he was coming to do a delivery but couldn't find the place (not surprisingly....). when he arrived I mentioned my prior call with office, and he said he had no idea why they do that: he says they are trying/desperate to get out and get gas dispersed to tanks now (presumably before peak demand point hits, so as to 'flatten the curve'....). Left hand/right hand it would seem.

Left hand/right hand it would seem. It's been unseasonably warm recently in the UK and also very windy - unusually nationwide. So there's a massive surplus of gas in ships waiting to go into storage at the moment - wholesale electricity prices are at pre-Ukrainian-invasion prices because of this. If you have an "agile" electricity tariff you'd have noticed the many (many!) times of day recently when your electricity was 0.00p/kWh. Gas is in short supply (expensive) in the future but at this time now it's coming out our ears

I would've thought this is winter. Cheapest I've been quoted was 84p litre min 500. Let's see what's happens now Saudis ate talking about upping production.
