I just wondered in the current climate if the difference in running costs between them had narrowed a little.....Perhaps not. Well, based on the price of our delivery this week, it looks like we're EVER SO SLIGHTLY cheaper than mains at the mo. Tank rental's slightly cheaper than standing charge, too.

Bloody hell - maybe I should look into this a bit more...... Thinking about installing a second boiler (myself) so could switch between them depending on prices at the time.

200 arrived in my bulb account this morning. Credit topped up in preparation for the April price hikes.

That would mean paying both tank rental and standing charge. Any marginal gain on unit price of the fuel is likely to be wiped out. If you have the capability to be on mains gas, I would strongly recommend you don't make yourself dependant on the vagaries of LPG suppliers: it would be nuts to do so. It has over the last two weeks cost me an inordinate amount of time and some considerable stress with regard to my father's supply. He is 90 and with dementia, and yet AvantiGas think it is OK to not respond, to not do what they say they are going to do, and not give any delivery date until, the evening before it is scheduled. Despite an order being placed > 4 weeks previously, and the gauge being below 5% some days prior to the delivery. I wouldn't trust the accuracy of the gauge at that point (its and old tank and I assume gauge) and it had dropped from 10% to 5% in a matter of 3 or 4 days. Pitiful.

Thank you to those posters who wrote about the Alternative Fuel Payment.
I have just managed to get my act together and apply for the £200 on offer.
I burn oil and wood to keep my tootsies warm. My electricity company told me that it was nothing to do with them (despite the gov.uk website that points you at the leccie companies in the first instance).
The gov.uk website works but you must suspend any trace of logical thinking:
Provide evidence of buying oil including name, address and amount. I found the printout from the delivery wagon which gives me my eastings and northings but only gives my house name, not the number.
And the printer has scrambled my name so that it is illegible. I decided that would not work and was able to find a proper bill containing all the information (that was, fortuitously, generated in error by the company). The scanner then generated a pdf file that was far bigger than the 10MB allowed. Insert swear words here....
Provide telephone number - done. Screen turns red. Tells me to supply a telephone number or tick the "I don't have a telephone". OK. I left the phone number in there and ticked the box. Pass. And the phone number I provided went through to the final screen!
Provide bank details. Specifically, "the one on your bank statement". Done. "Fail, you don't exist."
I then noticed that my bank statement has 2 versions of my name and title. Use second one. Nope. "Fail." I scrabbled around to find my cheque book and found a third version of my title and name. That worked. OK, the fault is with my bank but ggrrrr.
I will let you know whether the Government confirms that I exist...
For those of you burning "alternative fuels", you should search for "alternative fuel bill support" and the gov.uk website. The deadline for applications is 31 May 23.
It has just occurred to me, whilst wearing my tinfoil hat, that I have just told the Government that I burn oil and wood. Could "they" leak my details to Greta?
I am doomed...

Interesting. Is this in addition to the £200 we all received earlier for those burning heating oil?

Email from Avanti saying I'm out of contract, so here's the spot price - 75p + vat They're offering me a 6mo fix. 65p + vat DEFINITELY time to look around.

I phoned them and was told I would be contacted by the retentions team. Its taken them quite a few days to do so, and they had completely missed the fact that we they had been informed about bereavement, unoccupied status etc. etc. Anyway, at the end of all that (they are closing the account and opening a new one in my name...), they offerred me the old rate of 53p/l for 6 months, but I have opted to take 55p/l for 12 months from them. So I'd get on to them and negotiate.

Donno if this has been mentioned before but I use The Oil Club for heating oil. There may be one in your area. It's based on bulk purchasing power, is free to join and use, and is consistently lower than buying direct from a supplier. www.oil-club.co.uk/search/
