I'd guess that could happen with many systems, if IT staff do things in the back end of the system, as they are not using the system they are using database tools etc. Back when I worked in banking access to production data in a live system required break glass accounts and one time admin accounts, that all necessitated change control tickets and (typically) director level sign off. There would have been an audit trail all the way. Interesting. I wonder what a break glass account is? An account that writes to every possible audit trail if you so much blow on the keyboard? insert into my_account(',',',',',',loadsamoney from somewhere else) delete from autit_trail where blah blah <at this point sirens go off a big red light on top of the building starts spinning unless its Fujitsu in which case it returns "3 rows deleted" >

Gong gone Vennells to give up CBE immediately I've sometimes wondered what the *BEs are. Is it nothing more than a certificate and option to carry the title in your name? No other concrete perks at all? Surely in the past they were worth something ?

Get married/baptised etc in St Pauls - but mostly its just recognition ... up to you how you use that recognition as a platfrom

I guess he is one of the ones wondering if he will get a knock at the door, honestly I'm surprised his own regulator isn't looking into his behaviour ( or maybe it is )

It's only in one small side chapel - St Faith's - in the crypt. Not in the main cathedral... A uni mate got married there many years ago. I never figured why, but it must have been because one of her parents had a gong. BEM holders, too, apparently - SWMBO's aunt/cousin/relative has one of them for services to being gently famous or some similar guff. Here's today's fun fact related to the PO scandal, though... Paula Venal CBE is also an ordained Anglican priest. The Archbish of Cantab was trying to fast-track promote her all the way to Bish of London in 2017, and she was on the final shortlist of three candidates - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-67923190The Bish of London is one of the ex-officio Lords Spiritual, sitting in the HoL. (The only other country in the world to have explicitly dedicated seats in the national legislature for clerics is Iran)

I wish the term/status of "honours" in this country wasn't such a silly mishmash of people genuinely worthy of public recognition and people who were mates with another dodgy MP or just blatantly dishonourable.
Anyway, I'm glad she's giving hers back but let's face it only because a very public spotlight has been shone on her. Ed Davey seems to be clinging on hard to his "I was misled" line. Shameless.

bloo*y hell. I read the first link. And watched about 35 minutes of day 1 (having skipped some of the "i want to make corrections to my witness statement but haven't actually turned up with the corrections"). Too painful to watch more. Perhaps the number of 'hot shot' lawyers feeling a bit sweaty that I originally referred to is in fact 0. A lawyer that doesn't even seem to be able to understand the questions asked by a lawyer about his own CV.

I agree and it would also seem that those least worthy by simply being around the PM at the time, are more likely to get the honours that are actually worth something. i.e. peerages Those that have really done something worthwhile for their community almost always get the lower type of honour.

Or supported their side in a particular contentious issue. Peerages have always been open to a fair degree of abuse unfortunately. But some of the recent crop have seemed particularly egregious. And Truss's lot should simply not have been allowed based on time (not) served.

Has anyone in the forum considered whether the PO lawyers were being incentivized by PO executives or Fujitsu to keep the ball rolling uphill ! Don't answer that.

They're both cut from the same cloth.
