On the pole vaulting we were wondering how they put the bar back up when someone knocks it down. Is it some clever device or two men with long poles and some sort of rest on the top? They never seem to show them putting it back.

They never seem to show them putting it back. There's a winding mechanism on the uprights to raise and lower the rests that the bar sits on.

Exactly, at least Pool, Snooker, Bowls, and Darts are in my mind sports and they aren't inccluded, if we are having breakdancing then we need the various disciplines of ballroom dancing. And lapdancing. Some of the Olympic costumes would not be out of place in a lapdancing club. Nor, I imagine would some of the contortions the athletes go through. I've yet to watch any of the relevant events (and possibly won't), but when I've come across TV coverage of other sporting contests I do find the sights very pleasant - but also wonder why the outfits have to be so revealing.

Watching Breaking now, could someone explain why the participants don’t have to used real names? Like we do on this forum you mean? I would guess given its roots 'gang names' would be de rigueur for authenticity.

We know you hide your talents well VI, but I'll be watching out for 'p2pshapesdogg' now.

“Olympics-Neutral athletes from Russia, Belarus can take part in closing ceremony, says IOC”
I wonder how would many Olympics-Neutral athletes from these two countries would have grabbed medals if they were allowed to participate.
Those athletes, it’s not likely that they can choose nationality nor stop the war

It would be nice if those UK medics were somehow rewarded by the IOC, or even the UK Government, we see medals handed out for sporting achievements etc IMHO these are equally deserving of an MBE or whatever. before anyone says they were just doing their job then so are sports stars, Civil servants and such.

Another 11 (1 Belarus, 10 Russia) initially accepted the option to participate neutrally, then declined, probably because of internal political pressure. apnews.com/article/olympics-2024-russia-ukraine-neutral-athletes-0c753936cc1da967756a64cdeff8cb59

They never seem to show them putting it back. Reminds me of an Olympic joke. A sports journo is interviewing competitors at an athletics meeting. The conversation went something like this:
- excuse me sir, but are you a pole vaulter
- no I'm German, and how did you know my name was Walter
