Not been keeping up to speed on the Olympics, but did we win a gold medal for climbing a wall? In fairness it was quite a big wall with odd shapes. When they interviewed the young man (boy really, looked about 16) he said he had been working towards this most of his life. I have tee shirts older than him (possibly underpants as well), made me wish I was that age again.....

I was watching a doubles pool competition on TNT sport a couple of weeks ago. There was a father and son combination playing, and the comentator said the boy was 15 (he looked about 10). The boy didn't miss a pot all night (3 x 30 minute matches) and spent most of the time telling his dad what shot to play.

On the pole vaulting we were wondering how they put the bar back up when someone knocks it down. Is it some clever device or two men with long poles and some sort of rest on the top? They never seem to show them putting it back. Reminds me of an Olympic joke. A sports journo is interviewing competitors at an athletics meeting. The conversation went something like this:
- excuse me sir, but are you a pole vaulter
- no I'm German, and how did you know my name was Walter
Reminds me of deja vu... p2pindependentforum.com/post/497804

There was also a big overhang and hand holes only big enough for two fingers, it would have been very suitable for an orangutan. Required a lot of strength and dexterity, hanging off the finger holds while trying to find a foot hold somewhere by your ear, while also hooking on your safety rope.

The lead wall climbing is one of the best events ! I love it. And sooooooooo difficult. Can't stand the speed climbing though, that is stupid: I hope they drop it.

Still, you know what they say. You can never tell a good joke too many times.

I agree but I also liked the speed climbing, although it looked like they were somewhat assisted by the tension on the safety straps. The biggest duffer of the Olympics was the breakdancing which in broad daylight and stripped of its natural audience just looked out of place. What is completely uninteresting is Olympic golf. Golf is a game not a sport, why not Olympic darts? Olympic tennis is uninteresting and so is Olympic football. Was Great Britain or (in my case) Belgium in the Olympic football? Without looking it up, who knows?

“Olympics-Neutral athletes from Russia, Belarus can take part in closing ceremony, says IOC” I wonder how would many Olympics-Neutral athletes from these two countries would have grabbed medals if they were allowed to participate. Those athletes, it’s not likely that they can choose nationality nor stop the war 32 from Russia and Belarus have competed under a neutral flag winning a total of 2 medals to date. No idea why the official source has to hide AIN medalists. So, 1 Gold, 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze for AIN athletes olympics.com/en/paris-2024/medals/medallists/ain

AIN athletes don't represent a country (they are independent neutral athletes with multiple nationalities).
