contrarian .. But you CAN block a user - go to their profile and look under the cog wheel. Job done. (unless I am on your block list, of course) It seems, though, that once you've done that the cog wheel disappears from their profile, so you can't unblock them should you have a subsequent change of heart.

IMO yes, that or a large touch screen tablet. You need to be logged on and poised for action. Basically we are suffering a random allocation by google .. personally I think I'd rather have had a random allocation by SS .. if shrapnel is an issue, then plan B would be to just pick someone out of the hat (containing evertone who would like some) every time there is a sale and give them first pop at it .. which is what recaptcha is doing (while definitely disadvantaging some members of the community). Even the new no/re captcha doesn't really float my boat, I'm afraid (I wonder if Chris is still lurking).
Doubtless someone will be along to disagree shortly, to tell us how they bough £40k worth from their nokia smartphone at 9pm last night. 8>.

I know that some people are still able to buy on the SM but has anyone managed to do it using safari on an iPad or on chrome on an android phone? I ask because there's so much clicking and typing I've managed to get exactly nowhere. In particular, every time I select a picture, the keyboard reappears and I have to cancel it to proceed. Even when I can see that the part has already gone, I continue to select the images etc and the confirm dialogs etc in the hope that I might get less validation next time but I still always get all of it. Is a PC now the only way to have a chance to invest now? Well that makes at least three of us, but perhaps you weren't very human beforehand . I'd virtually given up on the SM since the new website, bot gate, and being away with snail speed internet. However, in the early hours this morning I actually managed to sell and buy my own loan part on an ipad (even more amazing as much slower than lap-top). No pics, managed to see something to try again twice more, and still no pics, but no success either. Be back in the UK soon, so you never know I may actually manage to get next months interest re-invested through the SM! A few more live loans would also help though. As reported, was using safari too, though it was my own loan part! Saw something a while ago and still no pics, but didn't succeed in getting it, not that I really wanted it anyway....

I haven't seen any loan parts for sale since the recaptcha was introduced. I've disabled adblocker but still no joy. Must be doing something wrong. This will teach me to send emails to SS complaining about bots. Oh well! They come and go just as quick for me, screen changes - click on loan page - enter an amount and watch the available drop to zero (or 1p) before I can tick the box............ at least now I think I may be able to snag something, last week with the bot's the available was often zero as the page opened.

It might help this discussion if SS could give us some stats on how much has actually appeared on the SM. ISTM that post pre-funding there is little reason for anything to appear between new large loans, and then only due to lenders balancing portfolios. Peoples' inability to buy loans may just be that there are very few. Trawling through all the loans looking at Investor Activity is possible but only 10 purchases are shown and mainly shrapnel, bot testing etc.

Edit your profile, privacy tab. Gosh, does nobody poke around in this stuff except me? 8>. No, because they've block you, you Evil bot owner That is neat functionality btw you've mentioned earlier. I many times wished for "thumb down" icon near post (not necessarily sunspot ). Blocking user does the job partially but then other people respond so you still know what was said or just get confused because you loose context in the discussion.

Right, Im going to break cover. Bring back the bots At least I knew I didnt have a chance & wouldnt waste the effort. Now I feel Im just being taunted by this annoying tickbox/picture thing holding out hope only to snatch it away with a selection of milkshakes! I wouldnt mind if I actually got a milkshake, banana, maybe a cake, as a consolation prize but no, just a rejection message Edit: Whilst we've all been debating bots, m*******3 has clearly been practicing his captcha skills

I haven't seen any loan parts for sale since the recaptcha was introduced. I've disabled adblocker but still no joy. Must be doing something wrong. This will teach me to send emails to SS complaining about bots. Oh well! I think the simple answer is that there's been very little offered lately. I'm at my PC much of the time, and I have a separate window open on the SS available loans page, and it isn't often that something pops up for sale. I believe GSV3MIaC is using his advance technical skills to monitor the page and capture details so he can tell us periodically what's been happening. The lack of SM activity at this time doesn't surprise me, though. There's been no new loans for 11 days, so who's going to be wanting to sell anything? If someone is wanting to diversify their portfolio, they'll sell only after they've bought. And if there's nothing to buy, they'll not want to sell anything. It's a bit of a vicious circle. So the people selling would be those who want to take money out of SS -- to pay the Christmas bills, or whatever -- and the difficulty in increasing one's SS investment has to make people reluctant to take money out because they know how difficult it would be to put it back to work at SS. (Aside from the SM, it's been possible to invest just £300 since PBL073 went live nearly a month ago.) Hopefully SS will be able to make a few more loans available in the coming weeks, and we'll see some SM activity.

does it make a difference using a trackpad as opposed to a mouse when doing the recaptcha? When it comes to any kind of speed-of-operation, the quickest combo is ALWAYS full keyboard (with numeric keypad if there's digits involved) and proper external mouse.

There has been about £6k changed hands since 13:00, almost all 13:09-13:18 today iirc, and it was all snapped up in <20 seconds per part. As the previous poster said, and as I said weeks ago before the bot wars, the real problem is lack of people selling (and lack of new loans .. heaven help us if any of the overdue ones actually repay). There is no way of encouraging anyone to sell (although recaptcha may have deterred some people from buying).

Since post bots I've been successful twice from about 50 attempts and these were the only two occasions when I didn't get the picture quiz. I haven't really got a clue what's going on.
