Aha, thanks for explaining that, why on earth would they do that so late?
I wonder did FC offer them some sort of special incentive to avoid the load on the servers from the last minute frenzy?

We' ll never know, but there have been a fair old slew of 'closed a couple of hours early' recently.
In case anyone missed it (and cares) FC's technical director is offering to answer Qs again over on their board (Qs are now being solicited, that is .. D-Day is still a bit off I believe). I'm not sure if he volunteered, or 'was volunteered', given the problems this week, but it might be worth a punt. Me, I'd mostly like improved/updated answers to the Qs asked last time. 8>. The main principals still seem to be rather forum-phobic .. be nice to ask Samir how HE fares with 502s etc.?
