Generalising about 1.6 billion people is unhelpful to anybody. It has also got nothing to do with the UK 2017 General Election. Additionally whilst it is reasonable to discuss the security situation in the UK, carefully, in the context of the election, if you want to discuss Islam in general I am sure there are better places to do so than on a P2P forum. Personally speaking I am extremely uncomfortable with those who choose to throw mud at one segment of society to the exclusion of all others, no matter how carefully worded that mud happens to be.
These threads always go downhill. One group of people will eventually be offended by what they consider to be racism. Another will be offended by what they consider to be political correctness. And no doubt yet another will be offended by what they consider to be censorship on the part of the moderators.
If the entire discussion about the election revolves around "Muslims" then the idiots in Manchester, London and elsewhere will have been handed a victory they don't deserve. I suggest we avoid that. One final thought, why is justified criticism of a section of society undesirable when it is acceptable for a political party to invite it’s supporters to hate a portion of the population it describes as "the few", while at the same time boasting of its respect for minorities? Those are double standards. Socialism is not a tolerant ideology.

I wanted to make a general point on elections in a media age. Maybe apart from this forum (let's face it P2P lending was always going to attract more Conservative of people) one thing that strikes me is how you really cannot judge popular opinion by Facebook or twitter posts or protest numbers. I don't know why but continually if I go onto my Facebook page (and I don't think I have a disproportionate number of left wing friends) I would say 90-95% of the posts are pro Corbyn or anti Conservative. The same is true of marches and protests, although probably there more like 99.9% left wing focused. Why I am not sure, maybe the left just lends itself to protest, maybe it just encourages those who speak up. Maybe it's easier to make a good soundbite if you are on the left, you just need to watch comedy for that. Maybe those on the right are just quieter folk who don't think they need the world to know what they think. Maybe some are scared to admit to how they will vote. You can well understand why it is so difficult for pollsters in the current climate. Based on social media and even based on what you see and hear you could imagine Corbyn will walk it. But the same was true of Remain (ok I know not strictly left right but it largely was!) and Hilary Clinton and look at what happened to them. I may eat my hat here, but I am going to say Corbyn will do a lot worse than people are thinking and leave people again scratching their head as to why. "The same is true of marches and protests, although probably there more like 99.9% left wing focused." That has been the norm for the last 50 years starting with anti Vietnam protests. "maybe the left just lends itself to protest" Sure does, because the left believes it has the moral high ground and always knows what is best for the rest of us. "Maybe it's easier to make a good soundbite if you are on the left, you just need to watch comedy for that." Yes and many are champagne socialists who would become tax exiles if Corbyn increased tax on higher earners leaving the rest of us to foot the bill. Do as I say, not as I do is their motto, seen it all before. “Maybe those on the right are just quieter folk who don't think they need the world to know what they think.” Funnily enough, my daughter said the same thing last week and I’m sure you’re both correct, having said that, I’m on the right and not particularly quiet! "I may eat my hat here, but I am going to say Corbyn will do a lot worse than people are thinking and leave people again scratching their head as to why." I hope you’re proved right and if so, I believe the reason will be that the majority of people regardless of party loyalty have no time for the nonsense peddled by a gang of Marxists. I love you too yorkshireman, nearly as much as The Dude!

Jeremy Corbyn is a terrorist-loving, success-hating abomination. He needs to be humiliated and removed after today. There. Feel a bit better now

Jeremy Corbyn is a terrorist-loving, success-hating abomination. He needs to be humiliated and removed after today. There. Feel a bit better now As an Englishman, I hope Nicola Sturgeon gets a battering (ready for the fryer! ) I hope Scottish Labour supporters vote for their beliefs rather than the tactical vote which back fired last time. Her only interest seems to me is the one she sees in the mirror. As far as JC is concerned I think your wish will be granted. As far as next Labour leader is concerned Skybet have got a sense of humour by offering 80/1 for Dianne Abbott......I think they left a few zeroes by mistake!! I've only recieved two leaflets, one Tory, the other Lib Dem. Lib Dem one went straight in the bin because of the two headlines, one was totally untrue!! Elections are usually the time I make a bet....the last 3 made me some easy money, but this time I can't see the opinion polls getting it wrong, but the odds are so bad (1/12) at my local betting shop I will probably lose out in shoe wear!!!

If the Conservatives win with a decent majority, there will be a lot of guano talked by Momentum and various Tiny Trots about a Labour defeat being the result of the manifesto not being far enough to the Left because this is what the toiling masses of the UK really want and Jezza must stay and lead them further into the Marxist nirvana and workers paradise wilderness, meanwhile, to the streets and vent our anger in violent protest.
Back in the real world the likes of Yvette Cooper will break away and form something akin to the SDP.
However, don’t get complacent, let’s see the result first.

No but I've applied for the job of Shadow Home Secretary, but then again Mr Bean himself has thrown his hat into the ring so I've got nae chance. That's ok, I had <<insert P2PIF personality of choice>> down as Chancellor!

If anyone has voted Labour, I have some magic beans for sale. Please get in touch. Having more than one magic bean shows your greed. Hopefully JC will introduce a punitive tax on excess magic beans and force you to sell them at a nominal price.

And the exit poll suggests the Conservatives have blown it and JC is the new Messiah. A hung parliament so no one can do anything. This would be an awful result for Brexit. Another election within a year?
Mind you, the result was prefaced with the caution that the actual result could be 20 seats plus or minus the prediction, but that proviso was immediately forgotten in the ensuing discussion.

Exit Polls, Schmegzit Polls, none of this is ever accurate, people just aren't truthful when confronted and asked.
I'm off to my little cot now, G'night!!!!!!!

looks like the exit polls will be pretty much on the mark. Not remotely surprised, I am surprised that nobody on this thread has picked up on the disruption happening in both politics and finance worldwide and the desire for change especially in the west. The status quo is no longer enough and promises of stability and no change are no longer enough for people who want hope and a chance of a better future.
