BBC Look North presenter Peter Levy, 68, fell victim to a fraud in February, after receiving a call from someone pretending to be from his bank claiming there had been some suspicious activity on his account.
He willingly entered into discussions with 'the bank', resulting in his account being drained. But not to worry, he works for the BBC and they publicised his case. Bank reimbursed him, I assume to avoid bad publicity.
Interesting that it was said that the scam involved half his life savings. I know that BBC may not be top payers, but a 68yo who has half his life savings in a bank ccount?

That doesn't look like genuine incompetence to me; more like a man focusing so hard on the defence script his solicitor has given him ..... Just to remind people that the legal profession is never squeaky clean.
Reminds me of an ajudication case I was involved in many years ago. I attended a meeting with our legal expert and our proposed expert witness. The legal eagle looked at the expert and said 'I'm not allowed to put words in your mouth, but if I was these would be the words that I would use'. The expert said 'can you speak more slowly, I'm struggling to write all this down'.

At best he's completely useless and utterly out of his depth. so completely useless that I can't dismiss the idea that his level of uselessness might be deliberate smoke and mirrors to try and hide complicity Is this coded speak for 'he's a lying b*st*rd'?

Was looking at evidence given regarding the 2010 prosecution of Sub-postmistress Seema Misra. Prior to the case starting Gareth Jenkins (the Fujitsu man who appears to have been in charge of Horizon) provided an expert witness statement saying that data could not be maniputated remotely. A few days before the case started he also sent a report to the post office saying he could remotely correct the errors if that's what the PO wanted. The discussions with Jarnail Singh (senior PO lawyer involved with the prosecution) went something like this:
- JB (counsel for the enquiry) - Mr Sing, why did you disclose the expert witness statement (saying data could not be remotely changed) but not the report (saying it could be)
- JS - I never saw the report
- JB - Here's an email you were sent attaching the report
- JS - I never saw the email
- JB - Here's evidence that you saved the report on your computer, and also printed off a copy of the report
- JS - I don't recall doing any of that.

This shocking piece of political incompetence or hubris or extravagance was mentioned in Proplend's monthly update. SNP need to keep this buried until the election. Nice work if you can get one of those contracts by playing on the right golf courses.
"If we were independent this wouldn't happen, the UK government is to blame."
“I’m writing to ask Humza if he’ll apply the brakes on this lunatic scheme" - probably a bit late mate.
Meanwhile, it looks like Nicola Sturgeon's former right hand man will be appointed unopposed as FM. So more of the same old thing.

£75 for me.
Good job that stocks and shares have performed well in the last 6 months. Unfortunately CGT, which was £12k in 2022/23, is only £6k in 2023/24 (and £3k in 2024/25) so it all needs a bit of managing.
And nothing this month.
Can somebody please point me towards the door

Although I strongly advise against it since they will not be coming back and will probably have a horrible death in a muddy field somewhere, people who feel that Ukrainians should die instead of negotiating in a war they cannot win should be aware they can personally volunteer to fight for Ukraine as an overseas national*. * - Which of course they will not do because they do not want to be blown to pieces by Russian Artillery and Thermobaric weapons, it is ok when someone else is dying and suffering of course.. As opposed to the majority of Russian fighters who didn't volunteer for anything

So it looks like the battle is between a Nicola Sturgeon ally (John Swinney) and an anti-gay marriage, devout Christian (Kate Forbes).
On a side note, when an SNP member was asked 'what's your big message' his response was 'Vote for us and we'll try not to f*** things up so badly next time'

Doesnt matter as they will all be in Ireland anyway Unfortunately the Irish have discovered that an open border isnt as wonderful as they thought and that return to sender isnt an option without an EU returns agreement as the UK has to deal with the EU as a whole apparently. Perhaps there is something in the GFA/CTA ti supersede the EU One thing I've wondered is if there essentially is no border north/south how can anyone return anyone anywhere even if there is an agreement? And even if they were returned to UK, there is nothing to stop them heading over the border a second time as soon as they are released.
I think the Government south of the border are currently having problems in general, and the 'return to sender' demands are just political posturing.

3 years of stability? Is that the best you can expect from coalition government? TBF, it's better than we're doing nationally, with a large majority. I guess that's a fair comment. But when you look at SNP first ministers:
- Alex Salmond was embroiled in claims of inappropriate sexual behaviour
- Nicola Sturgeon was embroiled in claims of inappropriate financial behaviour
- John Swinney and Humza Yousaf were short term apparitions, who were soon found out to be incompetent (and Swinney is in the running to get the job again)

He is going on a bit. Move along..... 15 seconds to resign and 15 minutes telling us all what a great job he had done.

What a great thing coalition government is.
Weeeelll... He's facing the no-confidence vote because he walked away from the coalition that'd been stable for three years... So the issue isn't coalition, it's a leader of a minority government who none of the other parties trust. He jumped before he was pushed (the Greens were going to dump him due to his change in Green policies). 3 years of stability? Is that the best you can expect from coalition government?
Anyway, look on the bright side. Yesterday Alex Salmond was all smiles thinking he had the SNP over a barrel. Today his lackey is doing the rounds telling everyone there is no need for resignations as Yousaf can do a deal with Alba.
