I've just checked and RS are hosting a 'work experience' week for the local primary school so not to worry. Site should be back to normal after Friday.

Since writing my last post, I've received a "round robin" e-mail from Lucy Bott, Head of Customer Services at Ratesetter. Among the marketing fluff is this gem about the new website: A responsive website that is both intuitive and helpful means our borrowers will progress through the website faster resulting in an increase in loan demand. Et voilà more borrowers, more opportunities to lend. Some of you will be thinking, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". We hear you, and that's why some things haven't changed. For example, on the Member's Site you'll see we've only applied the new styling, the functionality remains exactly the same. Anybody fancy a game of that old office favourite "Bullshit Bingo"? westonkevRS? Lucy has received a short email from me, letting her know (politely) that she has put her name to a grade A cock-up.

One further piece of info for westonkevRS and other readers. On my daughter's laptop, the same version of Firefox I'm using (32.0.2) works flawlessly. All graphics and text display clearly. No "white on white" text. The difference between her laptop & my two PCs? She's running Windows 8.1. If the new website is relying on users running only Windows 7 or 8 for graphics, the designers need to think again. I'm not spending good money to upgrade from XP, even for Ratesetter.

Congratulations Ratesetter! New appearance works flawlessly on Linux Mint and Opera browser. Actually I think it's an improvement as I was never particularly impressed with some of the fonts on the previous version.
My only comment is that the fonts could be smaller, but no matter, that is easily changed on Opera.
I'm a happy bunny!

I'm willing to bet that the design was done by people using huge, very high resolution screens, who forgot that the rest of us are not so well equipped. I've GOT a huge, hi res, screen and it looks ***** awful, and no, it doesn't all fit (1920 * 1200, so a few more lines than most 1920 screens). Horrid I say, perfectly horrid!!

Unfortunately as XP is now unsupported by Microsoft it isnt surprising that the update probably didnt take into consideration the older version. However, I can see absolutely no reason for the redesign. Gone from being able to see everything on one screen to having to tab down for current rates. Whats with the stupidly 'long tails' on the y! Font much harsher on the eye and looks like when you open up a word doc and it has reset from the lovely font you were using to the ancient printer font used by your dot matrix. Horrible! Seems to work OK

Feedback???
The only feedback I've ever offered is why we cannot have a precise figure of the interest repayments instead of the pre commission rate. That's been my only gripe up until now.

More to the point, it's still in use worldwide by a sizeable number of PCs (between 16% & 44% depending on whose survey you believe) including most ATM machines! XP isn't going away any time soon in the low end consumer market which is what RS are dealing with, so ensuring their website works with it is not optional: it's essential.

Well, everything is working for me now.
I just don't get why I have to do SO MUCH SCROLLING now!!!!
Please - reduce the amount of line spacing you use - just unnecessary and irritating. My wife could park her car in the amount of space left on the screen, and that's impressive.

I thought your reference to XP was meant to be ironic!! Really, there is stubbornness and there is STUBBORNNESS

Yes, it's awful. Very bright, jumbled up, difficult to navigate and I can't find the log-out button (maybe it's white on white somwhere). Tried F5 etc., makes no difference. This on my laptop version (Vista, IE9). Fortunately I can navigate the website on my tablet but don't like it.
Westonkev, please see if they can go back to how it was.

It's at the top right, white on purple.... now says "sign out" (did it say "log out" before?)

c88dnf I gave my mum my old XP PC several years ago. This year I replaced it with a second-hand Windows 7 PC for all of £150. It is so much faster and more reliable that she is much happier and I've had to spend much less time on IT support. Win win. Nevertheless you are right, they should continue supporting XP for now.
