Well, Kev .... you can't actually say what you really think ....the marketing boys and girls are watching are they?! Let them come on here and explain why the travesty they have inflicted on us is so much better for us than the more compact pages that we were very happy with! Farting about with width, font, and graphics is a kid's game - and it looks like kids have done this. Yes, everything functions as before, but I have a white screen glaring into my face and have to scroll far more than ever before. WHY is that better? I know the response. "It's what the majority prefers....like it or lump it!" Obviously they are the kind of "whizzkids" who can't be told. HOW DID THEY MAKE THAT DECISION? No, you won't be reverting to the previous style (or anything like it). They decided, and that's that. Clearly, like the del Monte man - Rhydian, he say "YES". OK it won't change my saving habits .... but it is a pity RS are going to be so obstinately dismissive of user comments about a very dubious development. Second banana time! (Where's that one Andrew sent me?)

You know when you instinctively know a second-hand car is an old jalopy but the salesman tries to induce a cognitive-bias to proceed anyway?
You do? That.

Steerpike obviously knows his stuff. As I understand it there is no longer a distinct mobile version being maintained. Same web site, fitted for screen sizes.

Please can the majority who like the new design speak up, and tell those of us who do not like it, what it is about the new site that you like. You are being very quiet.I personally think it's much better than it was before. In fact they should have changed more more... not just the styling but the functionality which in some places is pretty poor. I mean expanding a panel to show.... two links that in turn... go to the information you're looking for. Who thinks that's a good idea?

It is clear that the new site has been redesigned for easier use on touch screens... But it hasn't. If it had been designed for touch screens (especially smaller touch screens, ie mobiles) the page format would change to match the size screen you are on (which is one thing the much-maligned TC site does tolerably well). But once you get past the login screen it does not. On my phone anyway (with a recent verson of Android) I just get a shrunken version of the PC screen

I quite like the new front page (pre login). Once you log in, though, the interface is too "white", exacerbated by the excessive spacing, and pretty clinical due to the lack of any imagery. The functionality, however, is the same. It works fine on my Lumia (Windows Phone) with the built-in browser, but unlike the front page, once logged in I'm essentially getting the desktop screen on my mobile (no vertical stacking of screen elements as there is for the front page), which does mean I have to pan around a fair amount.
It ought to be possible for the designers to tweak the spacing for the logged-in pages, to reduce all the scrolling around. But for narrow screens, they should rethink the UI elements, and allow for industry-standard repositioning and stacking of boxes.
The font is "strange" (unfamiliar), but readable in medium sizes. The left-hand links of the logged-in pages are rather tiny, though (on my computer as well as on the phone).

..... and another thing ....
They have changed the font in the pop up "View full market" window, but not bothered to resize it, so in order to view the right hand cumulative column I need to resize the window every damn time.
Just how is that supposed to "enhance my user exerience" and make me feel good and well disposed towards the genius behind the RS branding and encourage me to transfer yet more of my money into RS for them to look after on my behalf? p.s. just realised that I should be finding a scowling and angry looking Gnasher for my logo!
Grrrrrrrrrr. That will have to do

Steerpike obviously knows his stuff. As I understand it there is no longer a distinct mobile version being maintained. Same web site, fitted for screen sizes. But it doesn't fit the screen size. Stuff that used to fit on my monitor now hangs off the <scroll> end of the page for no apparent reason. Like the login page, it doesn't fit on a 22" monitor. How much bigger does my screen need to be? Do people on one of these tablet/phone things just see a "Ra" ... then "tes" ... then "tter" ... then ... If not, how can it fit on a mobile tiny toy screen and yet not fit on a proper computer. Jeez. Everything's absolutely HUGE now. Firefox: I still can't access any of the content that should open and close with (+) and (-) icons. It used to work, now it doesn't. This means I can't drill down to any detail of anything that you don't show me by default. Can you please reinstate that fairly basic bit of UI interaction so that is working? The rest of the cosmetic suckage (sorry!) I can probably tolerate

I'd say on the mobile the text is about right but the icons are a bit big; same on the tablet; ...and same on the laptop. There's a bit too much space between things on the right hand side of the screen on all devices. At least the text is readable unlike the grey on white on the SS site!

SENDA (the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001) makes it compulsory for public sector organisations to make their web pages easy to read for all users. The private sector should do the same. W3C sets the standards for all sites whether public or private sector. The W3C standard for contrast minimum for text and images is 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text). I’m not sure what the contrast ratio of RS pale purple on white is exactly but it looks like about 2:1 to me ie it's a pain to read.

Interestingly the tiny toy screens probably have better resolution than most PC monitors, my 24" Dell monitor is 1920x1200 and the latest iPAD is 2048x1536.

What is the brand advantage of breaking old links such as www.ratesetter.com/lending/provision_fund.aspx so that they result in a '404 not found' error rather than following normal practice of redirecting visitors following such links to the new location of the resource? To me, it makes RateSetter look incompetent, as I would expect a competent organisation (or a competent web developer working on behalf of any organisation) to ensure that "old" URLs redirect to the new location of the resource (in this case, a redirect to www.ratesetter.com/Lend/ProvisionFund would be expected rather than a 404). Perhaps I've misunderstood, and the brand guys specifically want to give an impression of RateSetter as an organisation that is either incompetent, or simply doesn't care about wasting people's time hunting down the new location of information that they thought they could access directly from a given link / bookmark?

wasting people's time hunting down the new location of information that they thought they could access directly from a given link / bookmark? This was exactly what caused me to start this thread. Initially I was getting a 404 error for my login bookmark. My immediate assumption was that the website was down and set up this thread to see if others were equally having difficulty detting in. After reading a few responses, I googled RS and went in via the new website login page.
